I am a PC gamer who spent a good amount of money on my gaming rig....

That being said, $500 for a console is pretty shocking. I thought these were supposed to be all-inclusive machines that result in turn-on-and-play mechanics with affordable fun?

I guess Microsoft is trying to change it.

However, is this where the gaming industry is going? Video game consoles = "Entertainment" consoles, so pay up?

Forensics can sometimes get information back from damaged files, however it becomes a crapshoot as broken hard drives usually = broken information.

The kid was smart. He wasn't charged with any crimes, wasn't under a specific investigation - all that was shown was a search warrant. That doesn't even mean he's a criminal, it just means that Investigators are in THE PROCESS of finding a criminal.

...the fact that he's making a product to sell to the public leaves him open to most critiques within reason.

Comparing the game to Nazism or torturing children - not a good critique. Addressing possible issues of sexism (which the video game culture has ALWAYS had a problem with) - an average / legitimate critique.

Personally, I don't care what the artistry is and I think this game's design if fine. I do, however, have a capability to UNDERSTAN...

I keep seeing this argument about how "Video games are totally art" but let's be honest for a second...

Movies, television shows, music, books/novels, and even paintings are all considered "art" and just like video games, they are also something else: A product.

If you are making something that is yours & yours alone for the soul purpose of showing it to other people without any monetary value, then it is completely "art"...

There is absolutely no NEED for always-online gaming at the moment. The idea of being connected to a service (Steam, Xbox live, PSnetwork, etc) that can update files for you, download games, etc. is a great ADDON to the gaming experience.

However, don't be fooled - it WILL happen. WHY? More control from gaming organizations / console companies. The ability to prevent possible piracy, include more advertising within product, or just gathering statistics in any way/shape/f...

That's great, in theory.

Now let's add development costs, publishing costs, marketing costs, sales numbers, the weaking economy, development time vs. release capabilities (after all the market of demand always moves faster than time to create), etc etc etc...

The hardware specs are not what I'm worried about for these future consoles.

I'm more worried about the fact that game companies can sell millions of copies and eventuall...

How about this:

How about we as gamers, NOT buy these games that will be broken, glitch-ridden, and ultimately underwhelming so-called "AAA" titles at full price.

Instead, by them no more than $30.00. That way, game developers will think twice in assuming that unfinished games = full value.

So, the two franchises that have horrible release builds, non-stop glitches, half-baked concepts and borderline lying with their advertising means one thing:

You believe broken, half-finished products are good. I cannot in good conscience ever take you seriously as a decent, moral gamer.

In the great words of Billy Madison: "May God have mercy on your soul".

Yuck. Gonna need a shower after your comment.

Wow, I think we're FINALLY going to see the impending economic disaster impending on the video game industry.

Let me explain...

At this point, publishers and developers can make millions of dollars off of a single Triple A-status video game. HOWEVER...the overhead costs, development cycle, parts/labor, advertising, distribution fees, etc. are making even million-dollar successes become failures.

I'm willing to bet a LOT of money the ...

As a PC gamer exclusively, I'm extremely torn and slightly insulted by these future PS4 developers comparing the PS4 to gaming PC.

Most of these Devs create crappy PC ports, PC releases months after the initial console releases, and even disregard PC gaming as old, archaic and financially a pitfall.

YET....they LOVE to compare this new PS4 to PC gaming standards like they suddenly CARE about PC gaming?

I'm starting to get really annoy...

Oh how I would LOVE to see what these comments would look like if AMD passed on the PS4 and nVidia became their partner.

"ZOMG AMD is sooooooooo stuped!!!!! nVidia is teh best fer grafics!!!! AMD SUX!!!!"

Face it, a lot of these posts are biased with the "they're on my team so they're the best!" mindset. You know, until the NEXT time it's reversed and then all of a sudden "Time to switch jerseys!"

Alright, I see a LOT of posts chastising mobile / casual gaming so let's set the record straight...

- Angry birds cost about $140,000 from inception to release. It garnered a profit of over $70 million (and this number was given in 2011).

- The Nintendo Wii was sold out for almost 3 consecutive holidays making about $5 in profit for every console sold.

The reason why he's stating mobile / casual games are the future is because they&#...

I definitely see the Author's point: The line between "art" and "product" is a very thin line in the video game industry.

That being said, if I'm buying a piece of "art", it had darn well be worth the money I'm spending.

For instance: UBISoft should release "early access" to Assassin's Creed IV so the fans that purchase it can warn future buyers to stay the hell away from the broken combat, shrug-worth...

I don't know either. When I download from steam, easily 3MBps, but with Origin - maybe 300-400k at most. No consistency.

4703d ago 2 agree0 disagreeView comment

...yeah, because EA's main franchises like Mass Effect, Battlefield, Dead Space, etc. HAVE to use origin in order to play their game.

Oh yeah, I still have yet to update Battlefield 3 as well as download the Endgame DLC because their server download speeds are a joke.

I willingly use Steam. I begrudgingly use Origin.

Figure it out, EA, or get ready to be voted the Worst Company of the Year yet again.

I'd say Gameplay.

Reason being: When a game doesn't look that great, a fan (or fans) create mods to make the game look even better.

If the gameplay is rough / awful then that's the end of that game. No modification needed.

Fine, EA didn't hold your hostage to all of these utter failures.

It does beg the question: How can EA on a CONSTANT basis buy these developers and then as soon as they become property, they begin to trip, stumble, and essentially fall apart in every facet?

Is EA cursed? Did they sacrifice livestock to warrant this type of success/bad luck?

4714d ago 6 agree0 disagreeView comment

This is an unmitigated disaster in every facet - developers, EA, Public Relations, advertising, revenue, possible future earnings...even friends of mine who have NO interest in video games know about this debacle.

You have to wonder: How in the #@&#!& did EA and Maxis not prepare for this? How does a multi-BILLION dollar organization not have SOME type of disaster plan in effect for this sort of problem?

If EA is capable of this, makes me wonder abo...
