SEGA never had a successful portable. Nor were SEGA's system ever as profitable as Nintendo's

Power has nothing to do with the Wii U issues right now with 3rd parties. A lot of current gen games that could easily come to Wii U are not.

Ports like Batman Arkham City and Assassin's Creed 3 hit 200K with digital sales factored in.
Bayonetta 2 will easily sell more than 200K.

None of the game publisher make as much money as Nintendo, so I don't see why there would be any benefits to going multiplatform and not making hardware and software.
