3.1 beta 2 is definitely faster than 3.1 beta 1. Javascript performance is great and overall everything feels more snappy. I'm looking forward to the full release in early '09.
PhysX runs on the GPU you already own. There is no need to purchase a second GPU.
The old PhysX implementation required that you purchase a PhysX PPU add-on card, but that system has been eliminated since NVIDIA purchased the company and the technology. All you need for PhysX now is a CUDA-enabled graphics card, which is basically 8 series and up.
NVIDIA says that they are willing to work with ATI if they want to implement PhysX into their cards.
The DX10 version has better shadows along with better performance (covered in a previous article on the site), quite possibly the first for a DX10 game.
The performance in this game is REALLY terrible. There is nothing wrong with GameSpot saying what they are saying about the requirements. GTA IV is one of the worst performing games I've ever played. It's more demanding than Crysis despite looking rather average. (GTA IV is aliasing heaven).
"Sure it is for a one-day deal only, but 33% off a new-release game, especially a popular one, is near unheard of."
Not really. If you shop around, these kinds of deals happen all the time. The PC version of Left 4 Dead sold for $20 on Amazon during the Black Friday weekend. It sold out a couple minutes after the deal went live, though.
The GTA IV installation was 20 minutes tops for me. :/
The packaging looks pretty normal to me.
I'm always prepared for some hot naked lesbo action.
And you'll make those cool things even cooler!
If developers want more PC game sales, then they will have to put out more demos. I don't know why so few demos are released of games. A lot of downloads are done just to try out a game so why not let gamers try out a game legally instead of having to pirate?
Actually, GTA IV looks like it has trouble running on ATI cards. People are reporting low performance even with a 4870X2.
Stupid Rockstar.
Technically, they didn't change it at all. They just locked server operators from being able to change the difficulty in Versus mode since people found it really annoying when they joined a server where rounds ended in two minutes because the Infected were extremely powerful. The difficulty intended for Versus is Normal.
The Intel SSD is better.
What's the point in making a new engine if the current one works fine and is capable of pumping out acceptable graphics? They spent a ton of time and money on the Source engine; they're not just going to throw it away after using it for one game. Plus, they're familiar with the tools and how to use them and the engine is quite modular as shown by them adding many new features with each new game release. It would be a waste of time to have to learn new tools for each new game release. Also, if...
It's really unfortunate since every other GTA for the PC has been pretty good. A little buggy, though the GTAs for the consoles were buggy too, but nowhere near as buggy as GTA IV.
The new iPod Touches also have a faster processor compared to iPhones.
Left 4 Dead doesn't have a "proper" single-player campaign because it doesn't need it. It's a multiplayer game.
But at the same time, more and more console games are ending up on the PC. It's a multi-platform world we live in now.
First game to be hacked first on the console?
