Here is the problem, the first line "It's getting difficult for Sony to compete." AFTER this acquisition is final next year, MS will be the third largest publisher by revenue, behind Tencent and Sony. I'm primarily an Xbox gamer, so this news is great for me (Bethesda was better because I love all their games), but Sony is fine. Moves like these aren't going to put Sony out of business and aren't intended to. They're designed to add value to GamePass so there is ...
Only if it violates those laws which it doesn't (according to every analysis I've read). MS is not the dominant company in videos games, or the market leader. This move is tough to frame as anti-competitve too since it doesn't stop Sony or Nintendo from making, sell, or having a fair chance to succeed as gaming companies. Nintendo and Sony will be fine, they're not going out of business. Microsoft will gain market share, but that's it and M&As are monopolistic just bec...
Like everyone I didn't see this coming. I thought for sure their next acquisition would be WB Games whenever they are put back on the market. Maybe they still do.
No. The main story does take 500+ hours to do complete. It sounds like they've created a dense open world where players can simply do the things they stumble across, which is great. The "too long or too big" discussion comes from people that need to do every little thing on a map in a game.
Yeah, weird it's not on the list when we know it's coming out next year and we know it's launching into game pass.
People bashing them for charging for Xbox Live are forgetting something, Live worked great. Other consoles free live services were horrible. It was light years ahead of competition and it wasn't until they started to charge and build out their servers and infrastructure that they were even worth using.
Well deserved. Such a a amazing game solo or playing with friends.
GamePass meaning a future without Xbox is a ridiculous take. Streaming won't replace hardware in my lifetime, most of the world, including rural US, doesn't have speeds and data centers close enough for that. GamePass works because it keeps people playing...on MS's platform (PC/Xbox). Those people engage more, pay for the DLC expansions, and any in-game transactions, in Microsofts platform, which they get a cut of.
Sony isn't going to let MS put GamePass on ...
Was it ever announced for PS5?
Or you could just earn them by playing.
Or you could not care about customizing the look of your character in a FPS game where you can't see them anyways.
@fumblingtrout
We know the numbers are around there based on financial reports.
There is no real extra cost to GamePass than any other digital store. The streaming side, sure, you have the servers to stream the games, etc... but MS owns the servers and the Azure Cloud.
@fumblingtrout
"The entire xbox brand is run on subsidization."
That's factually not correct. I've seen people saying Xbox has never made money, because people can't read. MS in the epic trial said they've never made money on the sale of Xbox System HARDWARE. They have profited off the Xbox division.
20-30 million subscribers at $10 per month (not counting the $15 option) is 200-300 million per month. That's more than the cost of developing 5 mega AAA games every month. Then factor people still but DLC and add-ons for those games, which they get a % of.
Is GanePass profitable yet? No, but it isn't a loss leader either.
Amazon lost money for over 14 years, so a long time when building a subscription service
@Magog
Correct, quality and successful are two different things in mobile gaming. All they need is a short loop with a buy this boost hook.
We already have this. It's called an tablet or phone + GamePass.
The number of people that don't understand the difference between rental and subscription services is disturbing.
@ Magog
When switch online includes the new Zelda and Mario games for no extra cost, then it'll be like GamePass.
Also, GamePass is estimated at 25-30 million which is not half of 32 million.
Maybe, Lotta great games scheduled to come out next year.
People never seem to understand SaaS and subscription models. GamePass is financially sound model. At $10/month and 25 million GamePass accounts currently, that's $250 million per month ($4 billion per year). That doesn't count revenue from those GamePass subscribers purchases of expansions or in-game purchases, which we know are significant.
Regarding it not making sense to sell game on Sony, that's completely wrong. MS would rather have a $10-$15 monthly subsc...
