@michellelynn0976, I've been spending a lot of time on games such as Cuphead, Darkwood, Conan Exiles and even Darkest Dungeon. All great titles. All of them not even polluted with microtransactions.
I won't be buying it. I avoided several games that I said I would. I still have yet to pick up NFS: Payback, FIFA, Madden or even purchase SW:BFII myself (was gifted). I think EA is slowly withering away internally. I'll be blunt. EA was one of my favorite companies up until the Mass Effect 3 and Dead Space 3 shenanigans. That's where it ended. I loved Battlefield up until Bad Company 2, but they've continually shown that they aren't what they used to be. They are so focus...
Yup. It follows EA's plans for a "Games as Service" plan. That alone sucks.
Sadly, the amount of notches on EA's belt is hideous. They've shuttered some absolutely amazing studios. I don't see Tripe-A being the same ever again as far as games are concerned. I think indie will be the way to go due to how they actually appreciate their fanbase and have a lot to lose if their games don't succeed.
That's the major concern. I don't see this ending well unless EA changes their tune in 2018, which is unlikely. Sadly, that does mean we could see a BioWare closure over it, which is disheartening in its own.
That's where I'm at, @SierraGuy. I've been playing a ton of Indies latelt.
Coop for D3 was fantastic. But that first year or two was... Rough. I felt that Reaper of Souls saved it.
No, it's really not. I'm a Blizzard fanboy, but I draw my line at D3 being a shit storm for nearly 2 years while Overwatch attempts to do what Unreal Tournament, Team Fortress and Unreal Championship were doing way befor it. The last solid Blizzard game was Diablo 2.
Not really. A lot of their lead designers and developers have left the studio due to EA and their business practices over ME3 and ME: Andromeda. Not much of the original BioWare is left.
Can i long distance high five you, @UCForce?
We stand in the same position. I'm interested, but concerned. I don't be pre-ordering this one. Just as my write-up states my thought on what EA needs to do:
"If I had to give EA any advice or tips regarding Anthem? It’d be to remove microtransactions altogether. It would be to completely make this game exempt of any form of loot boxes or a monetization model outside of the games $60 cost and DLC options such as a season pass."
As I stated at the end "While I am certainly looking forward to Anthem and even opted for an Xbox One X next year, if I can afford it, I’m worried about the game. I’m worried that EA will launch the game filled to the brim with loot boxes and paid options, but honestly, I just wish they’d learn from their mistakes with two of this years biggest launches and reevaluate their approach to monetization."
I won't lie. This is not the worst game this year. I've played much worse games than this. To be honest, the story wasn't bad. It wasn't NEAR as good as the original trilogy, but it wasn't bad. It wasn't as horrific as it was made out to be. The worst game this year should honestly go to Battlefront 2. Just pointing that out.
Definitely deserved a bit more than it got, but we all know - it'll get it eventually. It is a sleeper hit.
That would actually be amazing. I just want them to get it completely optimized yo 60fps at 1080p first. On consoles that is.
Same here, @Hardiman. I love it. I really do hope we get to see a special edition of it launch physically. I would buy it in a heart beat, ship it to Ninja Theory, and ask them if they could sign it. This game is one of my favorites of all time.
Even as a journalist or "influencer" as we get referred to these days, I honestly think it got snugged hard. I love Breath of the Wild, I really do, but it didn't exactly do anything new. Horizon Zero Dawn? That was a labor of love. It was something astonishingly well done. I think a part of what influenced that award is the fact that Breath of the Wild was one of the last projects Iwata was apart of in some way.
Honestly, it's one of the BEST games I've played in 2017 and I've reviewed more games than I've been able to count. That one, by far, was the best 40+ hours I've spent in multiple playthroughs while trying to find all the runestones and just appreciating it artistically.
That would be amazing. Tenchu Z with gameplay elements of Soulsborne mechanics and graphics meets stealth? Count me in. I'll buy it on PS4, PC, and Xbox One just to back the game.
Honestly, I don't understand how loot boxes going away could cause the game to go up. They could offer optional skins to purchase at a face value. Paragon does this, League does this and even various other free-to-play games do this. Look at Warframe. It's a free-to-play game that is doing WAY better than any triple-A titles out there at this point. I think the Triple-A devs are just trying to find excuses as to why they must jack up the costs of games.
