That kind of irrelevant when the infrastructure isn't ready for an all digital future of games 40+ GB. You also get the issue where downloading a single AAA game can knock out someone's monthly cap. In the United States this problem isn't likely to be fixed any time soon because the ISPs have a legal monopoly and refuse to upgrade their infrastructure or provide reasonably priced high speed internet.

Most of their fans aren't connected to the industry and wouldn't know there was an issue. That plus they wanted to release the game in the Christmas shopping season.

It actually doesn't get that hot. Also if you think that the internal hardware isn't modofied for the slim versions you're a total idiot. They shrink the size of the components which results in less heat and a smaller power requirement.
The PS4 is selling insanely well, Sony won't be releasing a slim version any time soon. The thing is just a year old for fuck's sake.
It could be a good thing. Potentially the game sold way better then they were expecting and were unable to print enough coppies. That's being kind of overly optimistic, but still possible.
When the PS3 was getting killed by Microsoft Sony stepped up their game and made the PS3 a must have. So yeah, same thing applies here. It's good for everyone that Microsoft is having to play catchup. When they pull ahead Sony will have to do something amazing and so on and so forth. That's why competition is good for the industry.
They aren't scary for the most part so calling them scary is slightly ridiculous.
