There is no such thing as a generic 3rd person shooter.
Look at Gears of War, Uncharted, Max Payne, Mass effect, Binary Domain, Vanquish, Splinter cell, Ghost recons, Red dead redemption, Spec ops, TLOU...etc. All those games share similar mechanics but that's where the similarities end.

There's a big difference between playing a game on PC and being a PC gamer.

When Gears of war judgement was announced I was going to buy it regardless of the reviews because I'm a gears fan. It turns out Judgement was average, then I read the IGN review and it praised the game. But that's IGN for you- they'll polish a turd and call it gold if the price is right.

The hype can be justified because the Devs behind these games have a solid track record so there isn't much chance of these games being anything but great.
As for the Witcher 3, Sony owners should be excited about it because finally they get a chance to experience the series. They missed out last gen with Assassin of kings, which was a travesty because it was one of the best RPG's going around.

I like the idea of older games like FFX and Halo getting remastered because they are classics, But I'm not going to pay for the same game that came out a year before. I adore TLOU but there is no way anyone can convince me to buy it again now just because the graphics are prettier, it was pretty enough already and it wasn't the graphics that made me love the game.
