Exactly, people seem to forget that used games don't increase active server load but they DO use up storage space for player data.

It would also be foolish to believe that used games don't lower the amount of potential new game sales.

Online passes are a way of mitigating the potential loss of new game sales caused by used games.

Personally I think there are some better ways to do this that benefit both the publisher and the consumer....

They forever put a scar on the SOCOM franchise with SOCOM 4... Maybe underrated if you count last gen but this gen was absolute garbage with MAG being the only sign of life.

Well of course the online pass buffers the value between new and used games by artificially lowering the value of the used copy. I do understand the purpose of the online pass but I believe there are alternative strategies that don't net you such negative PR.

I personally would consider a model with a low price and high sales volume due to the fact that digitally distributed products aren't finite. The price of course would depend on what the saturation point for the ...

Alrighty then... tell me what percentage of that online pass revenue goes to the developers (not the publisher)...

Also player information takes up space on the database so while used games may not increase the server load it does use up storage space... but is that storage space worth $15? NOPE (I know a bit about how online games work since I am currently making one)

They then may argue that those buying used would have otherwise bought the game new but my ...

Exactly, and on the weapon debate side of things restrictions like that will mostly only only reduce the heat of the moment passion killings with firearms. (and those people will likely just improvise with something else instead)

My dad was a detective for about 20 years and for the most part the firearms used in crimes here were stolen or otherwise obtained illegally. (some of them were even stolen from cops...)

Parental guidance and moral responsibility are important factors that are for most of these studies intangible. Even at the age of 10 my parents deemed me mature enough for such games.

I am numbed to video game violence but I absolutely hate the real thing. In any situation I will only get 'violent' if it is absolutely necessary and I usually choose to use off-balancing takedowns rather than brute force (even though I have lots of strength to spare). My life motto tha...

@bishop-br

Not on the HDD of the PS3 but there may have been one on the media server or external HDD. Unfortunately that was so long ago and it would be impossible for me to know for sure.

That is quite strange but you might be onto something there. I myself figured at one point that an asset may have been tampered with on the server but other people would see the same thing if that was the case. Your potential explanation makes much more sense than mine did...

Exactly, cool stuff like this requires lots of extra work and RAM! I hate it when so many people underrate the value of RAM just because no current games really utilize it.

If everyone had more RAM then developers would be more likely to try out more polished concepts like that(though likely not at that scale).

Attention to detail is really what sets apart the great creative directors out there. If a publisher allowed one of them to take a concept like that a...

I personally believe that any product, service, or experience is only worth what people are willing to pay. I could see myself very willing to pay a subscription for a superior product but most MMO's out there are very dated in mechanics and just aren't worth it to me.

I feel there needs to be a overhaul in the gameplay mechanics and content of the MMORPG. I want more variety in the characters including even their animations. In any RPG I expect a very personalized ex...

I read somewhere that the brain doesn't really have a concept of portion control and that people will simply eat until the plate or container is empty or until they are completely bloated unless they are consciously monitoring how much they eat.

A supposed solution to this is to meter food out into smaller plates/bowls.

My personal solution is to simply burn more energy to make up for what I eat. I have actually lost weight on a 4000 Calorie diet because ...

My personal list (that doesn't include the obvious choices in the article)

Hawk Girl from Demon's Souls and Dark Souls - annoying voice

Boomer from SOCOM - Always manages to get his dumb ass killed by rifle butt in close quarters.

Simple from SOCOM 3 - This guy likes cliff diving and is a terrible sniper.

Every fullback ever in Madden - Retarded ass blocking AI causes would be huge runs to go for a loss.

I think it would be cool if the PSN profiles had 'panels' for the friend list like on the Vita. If the PS4 implemented those and made some game specific ones unlockable with trophies that would be awesome.

It would also be a plus for Sony as they can also offer some for sale just like avatars. They just better not get too greedy and still have plenty unlockable trophies and panels.

Hold on now... it is completely possible to stream a game while it is downloading on the PC I have played a few games that have taken advantage of it. That being said it is impressive that the PS4 will do that for ALL games.

The following is a rant and probably doesn't have anything to do with your comment:

I'm not a PC gaming advocate either, I am behind consoles 100%. The advantages of standardized hardware make th...

Nintendo has a history of making claims for a system pre-launch and not having them present in the final system.

The good news though is that they are usually working on their next system while preparing to launch their current one. Their unfulfilled claims usually end up true on their next system.

That being said after the Wii was launched I realized that Nintendo's design philosophy no longer matched my own personal gaming tastes so I jumped ship to Pl...

What? I like the loose sticks... I treat the game controller like a precision instrument that it is... if the sticks are too tight it makes making very minute movements difficult.

I know some people personally who dislike the loose sticks but they treat their controllers like crap. They are always a bit heavy-handed using the controllers with about the amount of dexterity you use a sledge hammer with...
