They are not giving you an option by making the installs optional they are covering themselves because they simply can't make hard drive installs mandatory because all models need to be able to play the games. If DMC takes seven to ten minutes to install that may translate to seven to ten minutes per disk which means that installing a two disk game could take anywhere from fourteen to twenty minutes.
My bros external just got nuked so he may make use of this service now that he is in great need of something to take his mind off of all the movies he lost.
it would have been lame if they charged more, I think this is a good move though a price drop would have been better. This should compete well against the new 60gb 360.
The thing is this really, where is the Microsoft brand? I am getting increasingly annoyed at Microsoft not because Sony is losing exclusives but because Microsoft isn't gaining any! FF was already huge before the Playstation came out, and the only reason it did not come out on the N64 is because of Nintendo's cartridge mistake. Ratchet and Clank, Jak, Crash Bandicot, Sly were all new IPs for PS1. I don't see the same kind of thing on the 360 three years in. I do see "Me too" th...
For all thoe people talking about downplaying this whole thing, let me ask you did GTA4 move an incredible number of consoles? What do you think will sell more in a western territory Gears 2, Resistance 2 or FF13?
Even if it does no one will care, it'll be just like Lost Planet, Eternal Sonata, or Bioshock. In order for this to matter in terms of console sales it would have to be released at the same time. Not ssix months to a year later. When it's that long people have already bought one console or another for other games that are on the system.
This is what they should have done from the begining the only real problem is that not all consoles have hdd's so games still have to be gimped so to speak.
It's still PS3 only in it's home territory. It is not nearly as horrible or "megaton" as people think. Bioshock is coming to the PS3 is the Xbox 360 dead? No, the 360 has a muh deeper problem. It should be way ahead of the PS3 overall, and yet it isn't, it has a history of multiplatform games looking better on it, it is initially cheaper than it's main competition. So just what the heck is the problem?
People keep talking about all these megaton's yet it turns out that these megaton multiplats really dont push hardware sales to some truly ungodly levels. I would have wet myself if they announced KOTOR 3 for example. I already have a PS3 so I have no reason to get FF13 for the 360. People that get 360's tend to not even be into this particular type of rpg. Frankly as big as this news is, it's not that big at all. Just like the "Halo effect" was not so all encompassing like so ...
Did Halo 3 destroy PS3? Did GTAIV going multiplatform destroy the PS3? Why is this game any different?
What's the point if the console is not as reliable as the other console? They need their own games considering that this is their second console not third party games that tended to be on Sony consoles because of Sony's dominance. It's the first party not third party titles, along with system features that are going to decide this whole thing.
Sigh yet another me too release for the 360. 360 has a brand identity problem, I would have rather seen something like the Witcher. It's good that more people will get to enjoy the game though. I do suspect that the net effect of FFXIII for the 360 will be the same as GTA IV in the form of not that much. If all of the same games are on the two consoles it really is just going to magnify the non gaming functions of the two products.
Watching som vids of this game just remind me of the sense of dread I felt when I first saw vids of Devil May Cry 2.
That is not suprising really. I went into this generation knowing that I would get both systems. It probably will not happen again though I'm personally not satisfied with the Xbox 360 overall. I only have three games for it, and all of my Shooters end up on PS3 or PC because I refuse to ever pay again for Xbox Live. The only game I ever play any more on it is Ninja Gaiden 2.(One of the three greatest hack and slash franchises/games in the last ten years.) My PS3 is the opposite with a r...
Would people go back to CD's for games? With all this "See Blu-ray is not needed." crap I have to ask would it be ok to see a ten or twelve CD game? How would you make an open world game multi disc? Assuming that you just repeated assets on multiple discs are you not getting less game per byte since data from the previous disc would have to be repeated on the next one to avoid forcing the player to get up and change discs to go to one area or another? What happens as the game wor...
I would love to have a 360 pad with a dpad that did not suck, and a PS3 controller with softer edges and a bit "longer" grips. Sort of a combination of all of the qualities that do not suck from both pads.
I wonder if the people having problems with the firmware might have bad hard drives or corrupted areas on the drive? If the firmware downloads to an area on the drive that is bad it could cause a problem during the install process. Hell I have even had instances with computers where a firmware update almost bricked the motherboard.
This is just sad, I mean honestly it is sad.
Meh Resistance two is going to be here in about four months. COD 6 probably will not make it until some time in mid to late 09. I will say this Infinity Ward messed up the PS3 port because for a long time it was not possible to add players you met in online games via the PS3 interface. So really all of this glowing praise of Infinity Ward is unwarranted.
I get the feeling Yoda is going to be the equivalent of the ninjas in DOA4.
