It is not overpriced, it is just too expensive for the casual gamer. $600 (US) is a lot of money. Money is what matters to developers. They want whatever consoles sells games or has the largest install base. That is why ps2 killed all. Recognize!!!!!!
Wal-Mart going hard core after that HD-DVD cash. This isn't about the PS3 it will survive no matter what format wins. This is about economics and economy of scales. And Wal-Marts business model is based on buy low sell low. Blu-Ray is just too expensive to be profitable on the margins Wal-Mart makes their money on.

I watched CRANK from the xbox 360 and the picture played on my plasma in 1080p. They are definitely expanding beyond games and they are catching a lot of us with HD movies and Television shows. They always said it was a war for the living room. And Sony is lagging behind. If the download service continues to work Blu -Ray and HD DVD might be DOA. It is a convenience to order something and not have to leave home to get it or wait days to get it. Different strategies for success.

The 360 download service is chasing Apple. They could care less about PS3. They are pushing IPTV and downloadable movies. Game demos and downloadable games are only half the story. No SONY will not catch up with the xbox live service. Sony wants to sell Blu- Ray dics so they are not interested in selling downloadable movies.

I am not a SONY fan, I don't don't own SONY stock either so my opinion is whatever. It is just that in this case I like the man he is bluntly hones. He admits that he doesn't know where Blu-Ray is going to be in four years. All he cares about is selling his games. So he wants the box to be cheaper. That's it no controversy.
