It's not the same at all. For Blu Rays, the content already existed, they just had to burn the movies on the disk. Flat screen TV, the content also existed without it. That means that the technologie could take it's time to find it's way into people's home and still do fine. While I agree that King's Quest is AAAish, the fact that is just the episode 1, defeat the purpose of having it on the IGC. I loved the game, I can't wait for the episode 2 (so many good childhood memories) and I hope the series fill gain more fans with this, but it's still some kind of marketing BS.

I think it's a cool concept. They said that we will get some contract that are timed and you only have a couple of days to kill a certain target and if you miss it, too bad. It's a game that will be a full year of adventures instead than a fun month and then everybody finished it and forget about it. It can even build a good community just because the game will last for a long time.

Kevin Smith said that for Clerks 2, the marketing budget was twice the movie's budget. When he learned about it, he was pissed of because a lot of his actors and crew was barely paid and he could have paid them correctly with that money. This is one of the reasons he stopped making movies for the big screen.
I always find at least one game that I want to try. I prefer new indies to old AAA, because when I'm interested in a game, I buy it. If it comes free one year after release and I don't have it, It's usually because I don't care. So keep your money for new, big indie games, Sony! Well, it's just my opinion... I know I'm probably alone on this one.
I live in Canada and I pre-ordered at E3 last year Far Cry 4, The Witcher 3 and Batman AK for 50$ (20$ off) each at Best Buy and this was before the price of games went up to 70$. I will do the same at E3 this year. Pre-orders are great if you are smart about it.

It's not for everybody, but this game had a huge impact on me and it's not a question of political correctness. Just like a great indie movie, Gone Home was an amazing experience that will stay in my brain and my heart for many, many years. Too bad if it did not worked for you.
