Wow Simogo is a really out of the box suggestion. Sometimes those are the best kind.
I think the industry will end up being just a playing field with all sorts of business models being a viable option, depending on the genre and platform being aimed at. I think games journalists, sites, mags etc need to keep playing their part in highlighting the games that may otherwise fly under the radar due to not having funds to market, or be aware of how to properly market.
IAPs and F2P are here forever now.
The cream tends to rise to the top and whil...
I think it's great this year how Valentine's day is preceded by Friday the 13th.
Something for everyone.
Ammo Pigs is good fun too on iOS for some old school mindless 2d shooting mayhem.
I imagine these jams would be a great networking environment too. I wonder how many game development companies started out by meeting each other at a jam and going on to form a company and make games. I bet there would be a bunch.
I'm loving the current trend I'm seeing of iOS games transitioning to other platforms. It gives some good credibility to the iOS scene. Examples Out There, Badland
I think the game is a great example of an on rails shooter. I think the voice acting was horrible and the business model unfortunate but mechanically I really have enjoyed the first four missions Ive played for pure on rails shooter fun
Cool list. Now we need a top ten ninja game list!
Looks like a good train/bus game
2D action platforms have made such a come back in the last 1-2 years. Even after the nostalgia thing is accounted for, modern tech seems to breathe so much life into the genre that it really is a viable place for innovative stuff.
Love the art style and concept. I like reading interviews like this with developers where they actually let you get a genuine glimpse into the creative process behind their game. Rather than the big marketing PR predictable answers that come from the triple A stuff.
124 is my best
Haha, I held off for a while too, largely due to the name. Even after relenting and downloading it I'll admit it has a lot of charm but I'm still not sure how it's gotten so huge. I guess just one of those viral success stories.
It is a nicely put together piece of work though, very clean visually and mechanically. And the F2P structure is pretty harmless, so it has a lot going in its favour.
Still not something I've given much time over to ...
I had a go at Vainglory when it released last year on iPad never having played a MOBA before and found it really accessible. So it broke the MOBA ice for me. Still not my favourite genre though, but it was a great introduction. And Vainglory is such a stunning looking game.
The Witcher Battle Arena I had a quick go of and again it eases you in quite nicely, and I only had a quick go but it seems there is a good level of strategy beneath the surface. Not quite as pretty as Va...
Interesting concept. Not sure how it will translate to a fun game though
Pigs plus ammo = Ammo Pigs!
I plan to be a gun toting pig when this releases. Crackling good fun
I love the art style! Beautiful. Looks like they're going for a niced mixed balance of art, gameplay, and story substance.
I think to take off steam machines will need to appeal to the demographic who doesn't normally deal with pc/gaming. And that demographic isn't aware of who Valve is. So it will take a massive marketing campaign to make them aware of what these things are and who valve is.
Whereas if a more widely known company such as Apple made a "all in one living room gaming/media/home controlling device" it would have more chance. Just due to the company/brand recogniti...
I just don't see any hole that the steam machine is filling. Nothing new that they bring to the table.
Wow this sounds dark.
