Products are not a Democracy. It's not about Majority Rules or we'd still be on the PS2. If they expect people to invest in their new hardware, it is their obligation to make it worth their while. As such, I have every right to expect more games that aren't held back by old hardware on the design level.

No, this is because they wanted $1 billion for the license and EA wasn't willing to fork that out for the terms offered. This is NOT FIFA making some moral stand.
Dbrand kinda made their whole name on being deliberate a-holes, including to their own customers. Some people find that appealing for... some reason.
They even once ordered an elaborate custom PC from a company, frequently changed their minds on parts, and design decisions to make it harder on them, all just cuz. It's what they do.
They do stuff like this to have the appearance of having pulled this game off with a smaller team, and all in-house. This way, only the loyal Nintendo employees are credited, thus making them look even better, and the contract employees they brought in to help don't get to "use Nintendo to further their careers with competitors", as I heard one fanboy so eloquently phrase it...
