The characterization is probably the best part about this one. From the motion capture to the voice acting, the characters in this game actually make you give a shit about what they're going through. It's pretty amazing.

I honestly had very, very few issues with this one. It was in my personal list for 2010's GOTY. I also didn't find the melee combat as blah as a lot of people said they did. *shrug*
I wasn't aware Star Control 2 was a free game nowadays. Did they release it online somewhere? Or is it considered Abandonware now?
I'd love to see the industry mess around more with different pricing structure, but the whole DLC bundle issue does make things a bit problematic.

This was a lot more fun than I was anticipating it being - I was honestly never a huge fan of the original Space Invaders back when I was a kid.
I thought it DID have some issues, but I didn't think it was quite as problematic as you did.

I used to love pinball growing up. Hell, I even played the crap out of a number of shitty NES pinball games. Maybe I should finally break down and give it a try.
