I am almost positive Sony showed this clip before in another "tech demo."
Personally, I don't see anything in that tech demo that could not be done on the 360.
I was actually more impressed with that new "3-d" side scroller, albeit a tad interested in the actual gameplay, as it had no real enemies.
Dave Perry has not made a game since the 16 bit era. His opinion is relatively useless.
The PS3 is undoubtedly a powerful machine, I don't think anyone is disputing that, but I am sick of these supposed "experts" claiming the PS3 superiority is anything but marginal over the 360.
By the time all of the power is "unlocked" from the PS3, the next-next generation will be underway, of which Sony will be number three again.
What is ...
Either there is a shortage, or there is not a shortage. Sony can't claim record breaking production to meet demand, yet still post the mediocre sales figures that they have been doing since launch. The PS3 has been in production since August; it's not like they ramped up production in October and pushed out a million units just in time for launch.
I do have to give Sony Kudos for putting out such a quality product with apparently few defective units.
However,...
Am I the only one who was let down by RFOM? I thought the game was fun in a few parts, but honestly, the graphics and gameplay felt very dated.
There is no possible way that Sony will make a profit for several years, if ever in the 5 year lifespan of the PS3. They would have to make groundbreaking advancements in the revisions of the components in a very short time. Yes, they are working on 90nm cell chips and cheaper and more available blu-laser diodes are on the way, but these improvements will not drive down the cost of the PS3 significantly enough for Sony to drop the price AND make a profit. The one million PS3's for the Euro...
They obviously have improved the game greatly since I played the lackluster demo back in december, but I am curious as to why it has taken this developer so long to put out the real and proper version of this game (shafting the Japanese) while it still offers the same limited number of tracks? The online play is the biggest addition in my opinion and I can see THAT taking a while to implement, but it appears the game has had an almost total rehaul, bringing it closer to that infamous cgi &qu...
Warhammer 40k's Universe is second to none and if done properly could be the best MMO out there. Unfortunately, I doubt it will be done properly by THQ.
Nintendo has Shigeru Miyamoto, who pretty much is worth more than all of Sony's game designers put together.
Sony at the 90nm level had extremely horrible cell yields, in the 10-20%. What leads you to believe that shrinking the die to 45nm will solve their yield problems and even if it does, all it means is less of a loss per each PS3 sold. As is stands right now, if by Christmas the yields are good, and the removal of the emotion engine is permanent, then Sony could look to save about $60 on each PS3 by the end of the year. So their loss on each PS3 would be down to about $150-$170. Advances in...
In Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama, I have seen a lot of PS3's on the shelves, pretty much everywhere I go on my route. Not so with the Wiis; zero wiis.
If by the end of Christmas 2007 Sony has not established a solid gain on it's competition, which is unlikely given the price point, then Sony's shareholders may step up to the plate and demand Sony lower the price. Of course this is a double-edged sword. The instant Sony drops it's price Microsoft will also drop it's price, so the ground gained by the drop in price is nullified. It would, however, put the PS3 core system in the reach of joe consumer. Then there is the other serious proble...
I don't know how anyone in Europe can still be a fanboy of Sony anymore. Is Sony purposefully trying to piss off as many people as Europeans as possible before the launch? Look, if the PS3 cost the same as in the States/Canada, then the complaining would be less justified, but trust me, software emulation BLOWS. Most of my favourite games on the Xbox still have not been emulated a year after launch and I'm not talking about unpopular/weird games either. Also, unless you are playing Halo 2,...
What the heck is Sony talking about? Hiroshi Yamauchi ran Nintendo with an Iron fist for over 40 years. Under his leadership he brought Nintendo from a playing card company to the only game company that has always been in the black since day one. Nintendo almost single-handedly saved the game industry after the great crash in 1984 and remained number one till the PS1 came out. With the Wii they have a surefire hit on their hands. I saw it with my own eyes yesterday at best buy. They put u...
RFOM let me down big time. I was expecting at least Gears of War level graphics, but what let me down most was the gameplay. With Gears I felt like I was in a movie in some parts. In RFOM it felt like I was playing a videogame, pardon the pun. Multiplayer in RFOM is fun unless you have been playing Battlefield series, or pretty much any online FPS in the past three years. Yeah, it's great being able to have so many people on the board at once, but it's just a mindless melee.
$550 million sounds spiffy till you add in the extreme losses on each PS3 sold. The European launch will most likely sell out, so Sony can still claim "record" revenues till it's time to pay the bills. If Sony sells One Million PS3's, essentially selling out Europe, they are set to lose at LEAST $200 million. Can Sony stay afloat this critical year, let alone expand the PS3 installed base to a point where developers are not fleeing like rats from a sinking ship?
I also primarily bought my PS3 to play BR movies on my HD set, but I am anxiously awaiting games that will show off the PS3 strengths. However, the PS3 is a game machine first and in order for developers to make money and not go out of business, they must have a focused, install base made of GAMERS, not people wanting a cheap BR player.
I love the theory that Killzone is going to be SO good that Sony can't show it till it's ready to come out. LOL! If I was in charge of Sony and had very strong competition from TWO competitors, I would be hyping up the PS3's games so much it would be pathetic. ESPECIALLY if Killzone looked as good as the target renders, let alone the supposed "twice as good" B.S. that the article quotes.
Sony is not in a position to counter Halo 3, this is entirely due to the price d...
That was like the worst article ever. The author flip flops between stating that he knows NOTHING and then LESS than nothing. Then he goes on and says that someone told him that the game actually looked BETTER than the 2 year old trailer, which was supposed to be actual gameplay footage in the first place. If Sony had a Halo Killer, they would be showing it off, everywhere, as they are playing catch up. They can't leisurely reveal their games anymore.
I'm a pretty hardcore gamer and a pc nut also, so dropping $2000 every three years to upgrade (read, buy a whole new pc) is standard operation procedure for me. The last video card I purchased cost me $399 and that was just one component. This time around I have actually taken longer to upgrade, simply because the games were not up to par to take advantage of my current system. From here on out, with DX10, I will need to upgrade again, but it took quite a while in the PC realm for the softw...
The Wii is sold out everywhere and has SOLD 5.3 Million. Not "shipped to stores" crapola. The Wii is smoking right now, even with lackluster titles (aside from Zelda). Don't also forget Nintendo is making a pretty huge profit from the start on the system sales, which margins have must have improved as they have sold 5 million units. This is not a Pro-Wii rant, I don't even own a Wii (yet), I own a PS3 and a 360 and I am getting tired of these "Just you wait till 2010!!! The...
