I rather see Sony and Microsoft start selling game services (PS Now and Azure Cloud rental game program) in conjunction with PlayStation Network and Universal Windows Platform. In doing so, it puts both Sony and Microsoft in direct competition with Amazon, Apple, Google and Valve. This will lead to both corporations to bring loyalty programs, reward programs coupons and cheaper game prices. It will also lead to the rise of mods, the rise of map editors, and the rise of LAN support. That is du...

Screw upgradeable consoles bring the power of the ☁ in conjunction with digital distribution. Why you may ask; lower costs for game development, lower videogame prices, loyalty program becomes a reality, a true competitive market becomes a reality. An upgradeable console no party, corporation/game developer and gamer, benefits; everyone is worst off.

Nintendo should of released the wii, tablet, gamepad by itself. There was absolutely no need for the console. That way it would of lowered game development costs plus it would of have allowed its consumers to play wii u games anywhere, anyplace, at anytime. Transfer the 3DS games to the wii u gamepad.
Sony should of released the first smartphone with gaming capabilities not a handheld

The technology part was in case someone came out and said games are expensive yada yada yada. Actually mod support has proven time and again not only made the game better both gameplay/graphics wise but it lengthens the game for say 7-10 years. Look at it this way, Titanfall no mod support lasted 3 months before gamers moved on; on the other hand, Team Fortress 2 with mod support (2007 released) still played to this day. Counter Strike with mod support lasted until 2014 (sequel released). Whe...

No, many games suffered from delays look at Batman Arkham Knight on PC. Watchdogs is another, colonial marines also suffered from long delays. I hope it does not get delayed due to the outdated hardware of the PS4.

Ok did anyone played Team Fortress 2, Quake Online or say counterstrike. If yes, how come today's games do not offer mod support, map editors, offline splitscreen multiplayer, and lots of online gaming modes. Wake up people, Blizzard is using the free maps and DLC content to willingly accept microtransanctions. In the past gamers got more free content than today, its a fact not an opinion. By the way the most expensive technology is not even utilized:

Were consoles not supposed to be cheaper than PC gaming. Paying $400.00 more to upgrade a console is not cheaper than building a gaming PC. It will still have limitations and I assure you, game developers will abandon consoles altogether if upgradeable consoles become a reality

Oh god put this rumour to rest already. Is just the slim versions of PS4/Xbox One with 4K video capabilities. Ok everyone happy, now can we end this nonsense of upgradeable consoles.

The RTS genre has not returned to consoles in droves since the PS One.

PS One rts games:

Front Mission franchise
Final Fantasy tactics
Command and Conquer franchise
Dune franchise
Civilization 1and 2
Starcraft 64

PS2 generation rts games:

Zip nada

PS3 generation rts games:

Tom Clancy: Endwar
Halo War or Halo rts game

Is a rumour and hopefully this whole fiasco of upgradeable consoles remain a rumour. Console gaming does not need to become a gaming PC with limitations. It needs to bring a unique feature.

Meaning is going to come from an indie game developer

If politics can expand from rts games into other genres, then why not. It will make games more interesting and hopefully we can get a political game that gives gamers a 101 course in politics. Let us be honest we are terrible at electing our representatives much less our presidents.

Is time for gaming to grow up. Politics is part of life and there have been successful political shows like 24 (the lighter side of politics), House of Cards, etc. It can work in gaming; almost every rts game has some sort of politic agenda. .......

It should be judged on what is missing. Both single player games and specially online only games are pretty barebones, using DLC as a crutch to have more game content.

PS2 single player games only had:

Multilayer levels with hidden pathways
Mini games
Alternate endings
Free unlockables
Cheat Codes
Easter eggs

Today's single player only games offer:

Easter Eggs

But those games you mentioned have mod support, lan support, and maybe a map editor or offline splitscreen multiplayer option. Don't forget those games did brought unique online gaming modes. The exception is day z due to being early access.

I may check out Doom. Is not my favorite genre nor is a videogame genre that I enjoy that much. I do want to say, that it looks like gamers want a more fantasy less real fps game. In all honesty, the so called realistic military shooters are all about glorifying war. Think about it, no realistic shooter is willing to add blood and gore. No realistic military shooter wants to add civilians and how war affects civilians. No military shooter wants to show the horrors of war. That is due to the m...

Sorry I disagree, all COD did was glorify war no more no less. A military game with blood and gore plus the focus on the effects/consequences on civilians will move gaming forward. It will take a brave developer to pull it off.
