I would more say this is the ps1 and the ps5 would be ps2... IF it is backwards compatible. The PS3 was an attempt to re-write how computers function... and that fight is a losing fight in more than one arena.
Xbox needs a Reason to exist outside of an extension of a pc. It has its crowd, but not globally.

My point, why rush a release when Microsoft would also have to rush games from said new studios to avoid the “no new games” stigma that has been on the for close to a decade?

Nobody had their hands on the original vision... they saw it, and they complained.
It was not for another year until players got their hands on it with its official unveiling.
And 100% it has an effect. Who was complaining vs who buys?
Now, I get the single player aspect, not fighting that point, but maybe that is not the developers vision either and now that the hardware is better, maybe they are doing everything they wanted.

Actually, in part, you are correct.
They planted the seeds long ago, and fanboyism kind of evolved in gaming media. As in there is no money switching hands to write an actual article for a lot of them.
But Microsoft is a “trillion” dollar company due to marketing and advertising partnerships. Dirty media attacks(that they have been sued for, so not hypothetical) and having ownerships and partnerships with a a lot of media outlets helps control the narrat...
It’s Microsoft’s marketing.. good or bad, always keep your product visible.
They want the fanwar to stay alive so that they can retain a sustainable business and instal base.

It’s still third party deals and soaking up second party studios... the exact formula of the 360 launch. What happened there? Oh, closed studios and Sony going toe to toe with third party deal...

I mean, just watch the news. Microsoft was gathering specific information from Facebook users... something they are partnered with, msnbc, pop up gaming media, etc,

Well, other games got massively criticized for short campaigns that were extended through only grinding between content releases... I can not picture a way for that narrative to change around here.
The thing to fear is xp and economy throttling to extend the average gameplay. This can and has been done on the fly like in destiny.
The live or die for these games are the attachments to the lore and how good the end game content is.
