A truly sophisticated gamer owns all three consoles... and plays the best games that each console has to offer.

He or She may not play all three consoles equally -- but transcends the "console wars" mentality: not obsessed with "either/or"; that pseudo-problem is resolved by choosing the "both/and" option.

Who would choose to play just one console, given complete freedom of choice?

After a good month of playing "Fallout New Vegas," "Fable 3" and, currently, "Call of Duty: Black Ops" (as well as the Undead expansion to "Red Dead Redemption" -- my favorite game of the year) I was psychologically prepared for the leisurely pleasures of "The Undergarden".

It has received some ho-hum reviews -- reviewers often forget that they are more often reviewing themselves rather than the game at hand -- but truth be to...

"IGN's dishonest Black Ops' reviews are dishonest."

I guess we have a choice: allegations of dishonesty or illiteracy.

Seth Schiesel's review (like most of his reviews for the New York Times) strikes me as an accurate reflection of his experiences. He is primarily interested in the potential of Kinect technology -- and he does not sound at all like someone who will tire of what he can already do with the device (read his review closely). It's quite clear that he finds a lot of value in the Kinect -- and that is his honest opinion.

I noticed that he omitted the social dimension of K...

I bought the Limited Collector;s edition. Unlike Fable 2, where I was a completionist in my XBox achievements, this game gets traded in today.

At first, I thought the reviews i had read had underestimated the charm of the game... but I was disappointed by the last segment (once I became King). I was told i needed to raise something like 6 million gold pieces (in a year) in order to protect the citizens of Albion ... but i was given no time on my own to do so. The game decid...

I have been playing Fallout New Vegas from my 360 HD -- and so far, with a level 20 character, I have not had a single freeze. Lots of bugs, of course (the kind that you shoot) but none of the glitchy sort.

I do have puzzlements -- for example, in the monorail episode, a player learns the name of one of the key saboteurs but is never asked to divulge any information; nor is he/she asked to do anything other than be a witness on the monorail platform -- at times like that, it...

i am getting a 404 message on the review link above (lol).
Maybe glitches are infectious.

For the record: I am playing FNV from a HD install on the 360.
While it is still fairly early in the game, (I am level 6) i have not had a single freeze
or glitch so far.

Activision and Treyarch are "POISED with a problem"?

"Last year, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was leaked early and the problem was taken care of with the cooperation of police and private instigators"

INSTIGATORS?

One gathers that such writers can't even bother reading their own material...
so why should we?

well, maybe the whole game should be renamed: Muddle of Dishonor

With so many AAA games being released in the coming months, it sometimes comes down to relatively small factors when it comes to deciding what to buy.

In this case, I will be buying Black Ops, Fable III and Fallout New Vegas -- in the hope that they are not self-censored or compromised through cowardice. I prefer games that press more buttons than just on my controller. That's why I am lo...

The present generation of consoles are apparently too costly for many people -- so they buy one system and then spend a great deal of time and energy justifying their purchase.

Since Sony was, for quite some time, the most expensive system it has tended to produce the most extreme fanboyism. My system is better than your system, blah blah blah.

I don't have a lot of money but i do have great enthusiasm for innovative video games wherever they appear --...

Good business advice: MS should disarm itself of shooters that sell... and produce more games that are of marginal interest --- perhaps even emphasize 3D games so that it will cost thousands of dollars for all the equipment required to play them...

One Sony is enough. We don't need two.

P.S. Is the upcoming Fable III a "shooter" -- or a RPG with some weapons?
What difference does it make, as long as it is an absorbing game and...

Based on an increasing number of reviews (currently 29) Halo Reach has an average score at Metacritic of 94.

It has to be remembered that scoring is essentially inconsistent -- new games are being looked at more critically than ones of a year ago, as game reviewship becomes more sophisticated and standards higher (outside of fanboy reviews).

When one looks at Halo Reach reviews in detail, one finds that a great majority of reviewers from reputable sites and p...

This non-review has no place on a site like this.
It should never have been approved.

I hope that we are not going to be deluged with such amateurish prank reviews
for the entire next week.

I downloaded the 360 version at the first opportunity.

I don't know whether it is my wireless controller, or the gameplay, but i fairly often found imprecise movement -- especially when moving from one room to another, or one environment to another. It became quite annoying.

This may not be the best place to discuss the following problem (but i have not found any walkthrough or forum that can help me): I am currently near the end of the game, trying to c...

I bought Alan Wake and Red Dead Redemption on the same day. I also bought official Guide Books for both. I noticed that at metacritic.com, RDR scored much higher across the board with critics than did Alan Wake. RDR scored 95; Alan Wake got an averaged rating of 83;

With RDR, it was love at first sight.... and many hours later, it was still interesting. At this time of writing, I am just about to get the completionist achievement-- which indicates a high level of engagement...

There is a good case to be made for "video games as art" -- but this question is of no use whatsoever. Huck Finn (should be "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" if one has much respect for the author) versus any unnamed video game?

Between James Joyce's "Ulysses" and Mario Galaxy, i would choose "Ulysses" hands down as a major work of art.

Between The Collected Works of Roger Ebert and Bioshock, I might well ch...

As I understand the article -- though this is implied rather than explicitly stated -- if you intend to create a BluRay collection of movies, or rely upon Bluray as your sole source of movies, then that is a deal-maker for the PS3.

If however you are downloading your movies (from iTunes, Amazon, Netflix, etc) in HD or regular definition, then the bluray player is relatively unimportant.

A lot of people do not have 7.1 surround sound systems... so that, too, m...
