When your GP expires, use the Xbox Live conversion trick. You can buy up to 3 years of live for $120 or less. Then you have to purchase just 1 month of GP and it converts all 3 years of your Live to UGP.

Microsoft still doesn't make money from GP. They can't just buy every game like they have in the past.
Microsoft is in a DISTANT 3rd place for exclusives. Let alone award winning exclusives. Sony puts out GOTY contenders on a yearly basis.
