@Thepcz
I think the absolute opposite. The Wii was pretty fun, but nearly all of its games were minigame collections or just trashy cheap shots at making a profit.
The Wii U is one of my favorite consoles, to be honest- and that's even one year after its release.
I really hope not. I'm buying it for sure, and canceling it on the Wii U wouldn't be a good idea... I mean, there are so many possibilities with the Gamepad...
"Sony’s willingness to try new things would help Nintendo remain unique in an era where game developers continue to become more and more homogenized."
...what?
I doubt any gaming console takes quite as many risks as Nintendo. Motion controls? Tablet on the controller? Dual-screen gaming? And this website is attributing those risks to Sony?
...no.
I, for one, wouldn't be likely to buy a Nintendo console for a while if they cut off the Wii U so soon.
"The writer discusses how Nintendo could smoothly dump the Wii U and 3DS"
Why in the world would Nintendo dump the 3DS?
You got one.
Also, refurbished Wii Us are on Nintendo's website for 250 dollars, and that includes bundles.
People that say Nintendo should make 1st party mainstream apps for phones don't really understand the situation...
Apple receives 67% of the money you make on the App Store. That's why so many games have in-app purchases and whatnot.
If Nintendo released even a ten dollar game on an iPhone (which is ridiculously expensive as far as the most popular apps go), they would only make 3 dollars. That's not a very good deal.
As a fan of the Wii U, I can even say that I didn't expect Wii Fit U to be in the top ten.
Good job to all companies. Some might not be selling as well as others, but in the end, competition is important and each company brings something interesting to the table.
"a real life NintendoLand"
OH MY GOODNESS
WHY HASN'T THIS HAPPENED YET
Wow, that looks really fun. I like the leaderboards and how you can view others' videos.
Arrogance?
I don't see it as arrogance. For goodness sake, Iwata started crying when the servers went down because that meant people bought Wii Us for Christmas. He thought nobody would buy one, and he said later that he knows God is looking out for him.
Whenever there's a delay, Nintendo apologizes and makes the game much better than before. They're a video game company, and they make games they like. Iwata said they misread the global market, an...
"Usually Nintendo consoles sell like hotcakes..."
Actually, none of the consoles have been exactly huge successes except for the Wii... The Wii was released with the right stuff at the right time. I'd say the Wii U is actually faring pretty normally for a Nintendo console.
(Note I said console, not handheld.)
Iwata recently said that he has severely misread the global market. He thinks he only looked at the Japanese market while missing what US and European consumers want. It's entirely possible their next console will be more globally-aimed.
You're living in nostalgia.
The Wii U is, surprisingly, my favorite console of all time. I really enjoy the games, and the sales don't reflect how much I enjoy it.
In my eyes, the Wii U IS ridiculously awesome even though it hasn't been selling well. They still do make awesome consoles.
I love Pokemon and am almost done with X, but I don't think it should be game of the year simply because it's all the exact same formula we've been getting for decades. If Pokemon Plus and Minus are true, however... I would consider THAT for GOTY.
Great job to TLOU and all the other nominees!
"So there should be trust already that what you see on websites or on YouTube is actually what you’re going to see in the game. There are no plans to abuse that trust when it comes to the Wii U version ;-)"
In those sentences he talks about the Wii U version and how we will not be disappointed. That may be surprising to some people who are expecting a far worse version on the Wii U.
After all, the title says "the answer MAY surprise you." ...
Great article. I really hope Nintendo does the most they can and knocks my socks off with future games.
Good list.
I'm especially interested in Metroid Prime IV, Animal Crossing (Wii U), and Paper Mario: Origami.
I want a Majora's Mask remake, but I'd personally prefer it on the Wii U.
I love this game, and it is no doubt an amazing experience.
However, I think that it won simply because of its more recent release and coverage.
Game of the year? Almost definitely. Game of the generation? Possibly.
Everyone blames the Wii U's troubles on its "bad" specs, but I have a feeling that if Nintendo released a brand new console next generation with the best specs anyone's ever seen, people would still find new reasons to hate it.
"It's too complicated, nobody wants to develop for it."
"It's only for the Nintendo audience."
"Specs don't matter, tbh."
...sigh
