It's really easy for people to dismiss this comment, but if you don't have a Wii U already, you've missed out on a lot. If the NX is announced and it ISN'T backwards compatible, I'd say you should definitely buy a Wii U, because it's released a lot of great games since 2012.

But at the moment, I would buy used OR, if you're patient, wait for the NX announcement. If the NX is backwards compatible, you could probably hold off until it's released....

Thanks! I definitely want to check out Infamous and Bloodborne, and The Order is also on my radar. I know I'll probably get Tearaway, and Journey looks amazing too.

Thanks to everyone for the great responses! Sounds like Journey and Bloodborne are pretty great, and I'm also thinking about giving GTAV a try (never played a game in that series). I'll probably wait on PS+ until I know for certain I'll be using online a lot, but for now I'm not sure how many of my friends actually have a PS4 (one? Two?).

2016 does look to be a great year, and between all the PS4 games I'll be getting and Splatoon, I'll be covered! Tha...

I've just ordered a PS4 (with the Nathan Drake Collection) that should arrive in a couple of weeks. This will be my first time owning a Sony console and I'm not completely sure what to expect, so could anyone give me some recommended games to think about? What about PS+: is it worth it, and what will I be missing out on if I don't get it?

Thanks in advance!

My personal favorites on the Wii U have been Splatoon, Super Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8, and Pikmin 3. I'm sure you'll also get a lot of comments recommending Smash, Bayonetta, Xenoblade, and the Wonderful 101!

...have you ever touched a Wii U? In your life?

Splatoon is honestly the best game I've played in years (and maybe even of all time). I've played it more than any other game on any other console I've owned, and I don't think I'll stop anytime soon!

Alright, but I'm not sure why that warrants writing an article. I personally have enjoyed Splatoon very much (putting well over 100 hours into it already- I know), but I get that not everyone will understand the appeal. At least you gave it a try!

You will not be disappointed!

Splatoon is a fresh take on a genre that Nintendo doesn't really have a lot of experience with. Yes, MK8 and Smash are great games, but they were basically destined to do well on the Wii U. Splatoon was pretty much a stab in the dark and it proved to be a huge success, which is very important in determining how Nintendo will handle the Wii U and game development in the future.

I'd say Splatoon is the most important game on the Wii U, without a doubt.

@Cindy there's no need to try and justify the sales with a dumb excuse. Maybe it's just a good game and people like it.

You really should. I bought it day one and have put well over 90 hours into it so far. Once you start playing, it's difficult to stop!

It's true that a lot of them are aimed at children and families, but that definitely doesn't mean adults can't enjoy the games too. I think of it kind of like Disney and Pixar- while a lot of the marketing is aimed at kids, when adults see their movies or go to Disney World, they'll find just as much to do as their kids. Nintendo works in a very similar way.

"and the sheer lack of must have games is what made the console not very successful..."

That comment makes me think you've never touched a Wii U in your life. I have more games for mine than I have for my Wii and 360 combined.

When it was first revealed, I wasn't really impressed at all. It looked boring, and I honestly thought it was another Hasbro shovelware game (I wasn't paying much attention during the Direct). But over the months, as more footage was released, I became more and more excited and I can now say that Splatoon is my favorite game of all time! I'm so glad it's done well; hopefully Nintendo will see this success as encouragement to venture out into uninked territory and try more and ...

Tower Mode is really, really fun! It's probably my favorite mode so far. And it's so awesome that you met Miyamoto! I actually want to see that picture now!

I think the GamePad was well-used in Splatoon and Pikmin 3, but apart from those games it really wasn't worth the investment, imo. I'd like to see Nintendo focus more on games that are fun and hardware that can run it (and 3rd party software), and not games that fit a specific controller design. I love my Wii U, but it's time for a change.

"and now they are playing...Splatoon? LOL"

Yes, we are. Because it's fun.

I only notice a lot of Japanese players when I play at night, for obvious reasons. Besides that, I usually only see one or two.

Are you sure you were around last year? It was more than just "one hit," and everyone agreed that Nintendo won. I understand that's your personal opinion, but that's not what most people think.
