Ugh...forum post. Anyway, there's no real correlation between LaserDisc and Blu-ray other than that they are both optical media. Their marketing and evolution have been completely different. Blu-ray is doing fine in its own right, but it still has to unseat DVD to gain widespread acceptance. I like Blu-ray, but from my personal experience it isn't so much better than DVD that the price is justified. Drop movie prices below $20 and Blu will soar.

I bought more games for my PS3 this year than I did for my 360 or Wii. I hope that Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft all step it up in 2009.

Kotaku is calling out the 360 for RROD and people are still complaining about 360 bias. Sad.

Depends on the kinds of reports. Ten Spam reports will kill a story, but not ten reports in general.

I don't think I would ever do it, but I guess someone will find this information helpful.

I have a 60GB PS3 and I haven't seen a need to upgrade the HDD. I don't store music or photos on it and I delete old game data that I know I'm not going to play. No sense keeping that Heavenly Sword install there when I know I'm not going to play the game any time soon. If I get the urge I'll pop it in and watch some TV while it re-installs. Definitely not the end of the world.

This shows why it doesn't make sense to put stock in reviews written by people who make their money from advertising revenue. If a major customer gets upset about a review it could mean the end of the revenue stream, so the integrity of the review goes right out the window. It happened with Gamespot and now it's happened with IGN.

The MacBook Air is definitely a bonafide flop. It's a trendy gadget, but impractical for any real-world use. A lot of people where I work have them as a status symbol, but to get any real work done they have to clip on the stuff you'd get in a standard MacBook.

What I find funniest is that in order to connect to the wireless network in my office you first have to have a wired connection to download the certificate. No ethernet port, no certificate. So they have to get a USB ethe...

One title isn't enough. If one title was going to turn the tide and make people start adopting Blu-ray on a large scale I don't think that Dark Knight would be it. It was a good enough movie, but as long as the quality of standard DVD transfers remains as good as it has been the industry is going to continue to have problems finding HD adoption traction. It was pretty tough to see a visual difference between the Iron Man DVD and Blu-Ray on the PS3 from a few feet away from my 46" 1080p s...

I'll reserve any judgement as to which is better when the retail versions actually ship. I didn't notice any discernible screen tearing in the PS3 demo. It ran solidly.

It is just my personal opinion, mine and mine alone, but I think that the controls are a bit overly complex. The game controls well, but the controls didn't feel intuitive to me. I'm used to doing more with my right hand than my left hand, so jumping, sliding and rolling on the left side were a bit odd to me. I do...

It doesn't really surprise me that the Wii is doing so well against the PS3 and 360 in Japan. It offers the quirky kind of social entertainment that people in Japan tend to enjoy and it is relatively inexpensive, both from a consumer price and developer cost standpoint.

I think that one reason 360 and PS3 aren't doing as well is because it costs so much more for developers to create games for those platforms than anything else currently on the market in Japan. We see stuff comin...

The blog is just stating what's been happening all along. Japan has been moving away from mainstream gaming for years now. The tastes of the Japanese as Western gamers have been diverging ever since the DS and PSP hit the streets. It's evident that the Japanese aren't as impressed with the graphical powerhouses that are the PS3 and 360 as Western gamers are.

All of these articles about the doom and gloom in Japan are pointless. Japan is no longer the barometer of the gaming world...

That wouldn't be the list I put together, but I didn't play some of those games.

That's pretty cool.

I wouldn't call it a disappointment. It wasn't my favorite type of game, but it was very well done. High production values and solid gameplay. I thought that it relied too much on the cinema aspects to move the story along, but that's just Kojima's style.

I don't think that it's fair to compare Blu-ray to Laserdisc. There really aren't many similarities. I think that Blu-ray does still face an uphill battle for acceptance because the average consumer isn't really going to be able to see an advantage of high-def movies compared to DVD. Especially since most recent DVD releases are higher-resolution transfers than DVD's made 5 or more years ago.

There are only a few movies I pay extra to get on Blu-ray. Most of my purchases are stil...

People get so wrapped up in these games months before they release and then end up defending them even in light of glaring problems. I often find it funny when a game doesn't live up to the hype and the review scores reflect it. Then people go into defense mode.

I'm surprised anyone was motivated enough by the original report to follow up on it.

I don't care much for this one. I've played the demo and I don't think it's that good. It looks great, but the controls aren't that great. I guess it's just not my thing.

I really like my PS3. I don't care how fast the Blu-ray drive is. It plays my games and my movies and that's really all I care about.
