"And the good news for Genshin Impact doesn't end there. data.ai are now confidently predicting that the game will pass $6 billion in earnings before the year's end."
It's not like there aren...
Well it wasn't like MS was using it's trillions in valuation worth to fund it. I'm sure the rational gamers knew that this price hike (and future ones) are inevitable. That goes for all the subscription services across all companies.
Give Bethesda some tips on how to work with new, better game engines.
I have not spent a dime in any of the Hoyoverse games and have enjoyed every single one of them. I think they’re great stories and great characters, especially if you’re into anime and fantasy RPGs.

Just wanted to point out that the article does mention Yasuke.
“Hamada mentioned his plan to closely examine how Yasuke, a black man who served Nobunaga Oda, is depicted in the game. He provided more screenshots of feedback received on this issue, highlighting broader worries about cultural appropriation and sensitivity.”
I started with Cold Steel 1-4, then I took a step back and played Zero and Azure to get a better handle on the Crossbell story. I'm now in the middle of Reverie but took a break to play some other games for a while. I'll get back into Reverie soon and then onto Daybreak. Great storytelling and great characters in this series.
I haven't used any of the Fallout or Skyrim mods before so I won't say they're required to make the games 'playable', but I would hope that Bethesda is handling more of their own QoL updates rather than wait for mods to point them out.
Oh damn, I thought they were announcing a game. It's a long shot but maybe this could lead to further interest in the story and then hopefully a game in the future.
I'll download and give it a try. Have to see for myself if it's a game that I could put some time into.
Console players who only have GP Console will need to upgrade to GP Ultimate in order to have full access to the game including multiplayer modes so quite a few people will probably be upgrading their subs.
CoD is always successful but now they'll measure the 'success' of the game by how many players have booted the game up.
Probably because that story hasn't been confirmed to be true at this point. If it is true, I hope that it gets the coverage it deserves. But these day, people just spread all types of rumors and innuendo just to get likes.
I wish more bosses in this industry would adopt these kind of views that Hidetaka Miyazaki and even Larian boss Swen Vincke have. Your employees are your greatest asset. Once you start laying them off to satisfy stockholders expected returns, you've already lost.
Yeah those are all good questions. I think the problem lies with the inherent (or perceived) problem concerning 'business growth'. If anything, it's that concept that business is not 'successful' unless it's showing growth year over year. To me, that is what is unsustainable and leads to the ebbs and flows in the industry.
Maybe if we're sticking to the precise distinction in the article title concerning AAA-developed games only, then perhaps ye...
I agree that the development costs are getting out of control but exclusivity still matters in an industry where console manufacturers are trying to push their sales. How else are you going to entice gamers to buy your console over the competition?
I actually never finished Inquisition. I'll probably boot that back up and get back into it before getting Veilguard. Disappointed that Veilguard is confirmed to not be full open world like Inquistion but I'll keep an open mind and wait to hear/see more.
Alex Hutchinson left Ubisoft as Creative Director back in 2017 (that article from Complex is 12 years old). Surely there were actual devs since then (at least one from the nerdstash article) that wanted to do feudal Japan.
To be fair, the article mentions that the 'devs' have been wanting to make a feudal Japan game for a long time.
We all know that it's the corporate execs that make the final decision on what games the devs will make.
No surprise there since most DLCs require a certain amount of playthrough in the main story in order to access it.
Still looking forward to picking this up. I had high hopes for it since I first heard about it.
No, I was responding to your comment that Hoyo games aren't sustainable. That quote was from inside the link that I posted. If Genshin has a $200 million per year upkeep as per the president, I was showing you that they are about to pull in $6 billion in earnings before this year is out.
I think they are covering that upkeep cost quite well as the game is still ongoing for four years now. They are getting all their money from the people on mobile, PC, and PS5 who are b...
