People don't really dog the X1 for 900p. It's when things like Frostbite Engine games, Titanfall 1, MGS Ground Zeroes etc are running close to 720p than 1080p.
Also pro does have 4K native titles and 1800p is a huge boost over 1080 p. Look at a monitor running something at 1920*1080 and another monitor running the same title at 2560*1440/1600. The difference is clear.

Energy/Space concerns, uniformity of controls and ease of use. Why should YOU limit yourself to a console? That's a decision for yourself, what do you want out of a machine?
For a lot of people they just want to turn on a machine and go. That doesn't disparage either side and it doesn't mean one is better than the other. Different use cases for different people.
