The magic of Halo 1 in 2001 was a console shooter had never been that big, expansive, look that great or play that great. Halo 5 has more mechanically going on than H1, the notion that H5 is some kind of abhorrent mess is just kind of funny. Especially when placed against H2.

To be fair two of your examples didn't ever get much of a push. Neo Geo was also the down payment on a shitty house in the mid 90's. 1000+ for hardware and 200+ for games, I really don't think it was software variety that sunk the neo Geo.

Except when they did, no one bought them. The ZoE HD update sold poorly, Silent Hill hasn't had a winner since SH3 or Shattered Memories, the Hard Corps reboot was so bad the Contra name was stripped from it.
Sans Metal Gear Konami's game business has been dead in the water for years. No amount of HD remasters, remakes, reboots or sequels will change that. The DS Castlevania s were amazing, it didn't change anything.

Blind boxes, the biggest issue with blind box microtransactions is that it turns the game into half "dress up" for so many people.
