A lot of people loved it. A lot of people also hated it. Your opinion is your own (though I find it asinine) and you're entitled to it but it doesn't mean you have to speak said opinion as if it was a fact.

Portable Ops is canon but it's not directed by Hideo Kojima hence why the events that happened in it are not directly referenced in other titles but they did happen.
I don't know why there's such a confusion about it. I'm pretty sure Kojima himself said numerous times MPO is canon.
The first two Metal Gear games are not considered 100% canon anymore. MGS3 retconned some facts from the early games.
