It's essentially the same game (95% the same) but with prettier graphics and you know what? Fans loved it.
Why can't Final Fantasy VII do what the RE 1 remake did and just update the graphics and do a few new things with the world?

Really? Did you seriously just say that garbage? There are areas with only one or two terrible ISPs that have connection issues constantly and services are down a lot. AT&T was down in my area twice for several hours (I have another far superior ISP).
Some people have to use Satellite Internet in areas with no local ISPs
DmC was a reboot, not a remake.
If it was a remaster then things are allowed to change. Capcom did the RE remake right and just updated the graphics and kept the core gameplay.
That is what the fans want with FF VII remake.
I would like to see a modified version of XIII's system where you give commands to everyone. XIII'S wasnt perfect but it was way better than XII's.
Capcom allowed changes with DmC and look how that turned out.

@theone: a majority of the people are like that including myself. I'm worried about changes to the battle system and major story changes. Not saying all changes are bad, minor tweaks are okay but turning it into an action RPG is a no buy for me.
If I want an action RPG I would play kingdom hearts. Not final fantasy

People on some sites including this one has been wanting FF VII remake to be action based. I highly do not support that as it will alienate a ton of core players. Essentially they're trying to chase the CoD audience that likely aren't going to buy Fantasy based games anyway.
As long as they don't do anything drastic like turning it into an action RPG, it will be great.
Honestly, the best thing they can do to please both Action RPG fans and the nostalgic fans that want the battle system to remain intact is to give an option for us to play it both ways (the FF VII port of the PC version doesn't count)
Actually fans do know what they want. It's stupid to give fans asking for a remake with turned based gameplay an action game to press X to win.
Besides, I guarantee there will be petitions going up to demand it to be turned based if it comes out as an action game.
I keep saying a petition needs to start now so we get the game we want and the game SE needs to make the a roaring success.
FF should not be an action RPG at all and that's something that FF VII needs to avoid being.
