Neither's Minecraft, but you're right - it will almost certainly be the best-selling VR title... Sony does have a Star Wars 'Battlefront' game, but we don't know what that's going to be - though I'd bet money on it being a 'curated' version of the first Death Star battle - either way, it'll sell.

Some people say porn will be 'the decider', but I'm not entirely convinced - yeah, the video features are cool, but I don't ...

I figure it'll come down to whichever headset has the first truly 'killer app' - so far, the VR titles I've seen look more like 'experiences' than fully-fleged games... almost all of them have the user playing the role of a sitting or stationary character, many are on-rails and the vast majority are considerably shorter than 'regular' videogames.

A year ago I was expecting titles like Star Citizen, No Man's Sky and the ever-elusive Half L...

Well, that's a very, very, VERY generous estimate... even if these companies are able to sort out their production issues (people are still waiting on their 'launch' Oculus/Vive headsets and Sony's been making noise about hardware shortages), their various games line-ups are still lacking the 'killer app' (No Man's Sky, Star Citizen, Half Life 3) needed for that kind of response.

The ESA need to work on their methodology... As it stands, I'd ...

3 things:

1. I'm guessing your reply was meant for me?

2. Super Mario 3D World (which bought 4 player co-op to 3D platforming) has sold 4.82 million copies (on a console that's sold 12mil!)... you really think Ratchet & Clank (or any other franchise) will do that well, or that it'll ever evolve the genre the way Mario has?

3. Sunset Overdrive has the best traversal system I've ever seen - if it isn't a platformer...

Didn't Mario already do that 3 or 4 times?
Not to mention Sunset Overdrive!

As someone who's never played any of the others, I was very impressed by the remake... Hands-down the Best-looking game I've ever seen, plus I hadn't played a 3D platformer like that since the N64 days, so it was super nostalgic.

Here's hoping the film does well with kids... could revive the franchise on a whole new level.

True enough... Still, Ubisoft have a tendency to pull multiple studios together to get a game out 'on time', which must be inconvenient for both the 'core' team (who have to explain things to the fresh meat) and the 'outsourced' devs (who were probably busy working on other games).

R* games are for the most part made by individual studios (North, Santa Monica, Team Bondi, etc), which takes longer but offer far more polished and 'complete' exp...

Ubisoft, Activision and EA are all committed to yearly franchises, whereas R* do things at their own pace... a good demonstration of the difference can be found in five years between GTAs 4 and 5, during which time Ubisoft were able to release 6 Assassin's Creed games.

Then there's the Capcoms and Konamis of the industry, whose sole-purpose is to milk every drop of
cash from their formerly great franchises, where shady tactics are the norm... R* aren't...

They've basically confirmed there will be more Witcher games down the line, but they haven't committed to anything in term of timeline, plot or characters... They won't even confirm if the game will feature Geralt.

Sapkowski's novels and CDPR's games span roughly 25 of Geralt's 100-odd years of living, so they could go back to his early days as a Witcher, or they could have him as an older Vesimir-type character, training a player-created Witcher... ...

Well, they're making all the right moves... In terms of quality they're already ahead of Bethesda and Bioware, but they've got a ways to go before they can challenge R*.

That said, Mass Effect, Zelda and Horizon's Delays to 2017 basically makes 'Blood and Wine' a shoe-in for even more GotY awards - assuming R* don't up and release the next Red Dead (which could happen)... Either way, it's gonna be a while before Cyberpunk 2077, and bloody AGE...

The Fable series did that and it worked quite well... it also had a set of gestures and a gift system that allowed the player to commicate with NPCs.

Zelda U is an open-world game, so when Link isn't dungeon-crawling, he'll be exploring on his horse, hunting down collectables, killing random baddies and minigaming (here's hoping fishing is back)... the 'linear' Zelda games don't have a lot of dialogue (written or otherwise), so I wouldn't expect ...

Tommy Wiseau... the director? Sure he's charismatic, and 'The Pigman' was a masterpiece, but his voice lacks the subtle intensity a role like Link's would require... if anyone was born to play a pre-teen, chicken-chasing elf, it's Gilbert Gottfried (AKA 'The Gott').

I remember there was a Legend of Zelda cartoon on telly in the late 80's/early 90s... can't remember if it was any good, but I do recall Link and the other characters speaking, which didn't seem 'wrong' to me - though I was 8 or 9 at the time and had yet to play any of the games.

It's strange, but I feel like it'd be okay for the 'realistic' adult Link to speak, though I'm not sure if it would suit his younger incarnations... That sai...

I'm saying that Remedy chose the most cost-effective option available to them... all games have a budget and I'm guessing Remedy went well over their initial estimates - the multiple delays, casting changes (leading to 'reshoots' with their custom mo-cap tech, which isn't cheap), the out-of-nowhere PC version and things like Beth Wilder no longer available as a playable character make me think that Quantum Break cost considerably more than either Microsoft or Remedy expect...

Exactly... kind of hard to imagine Apple funding a Microsoft exclusive.

Typical Christians - did the same thing to me with the Bible (SPOILER ALERT - Jesus doesn't make it).

Still, Quantum Break's pretty great... I know Remedy have been working on another game, which is almost-certainly another Alan Wake, but I'm hoping it's Quantum Break 2.

Quantum Break is set in the 'real world', and Remedy needed to use real phones, computers and cars, because these items appear in both the game and the live-action show... might as well get paid to do it, right?

And what's the alternative?
Would you prefer they turned down the money and made a cheaper game?
Or should they have kickstarted production of their own functional 'no-name' products?

It's not all bad - Wild Hunt, Life is Strange and Quantum Break all told great stories in unique ways (curiously all three feature time travel/manipulation), so it's not as though AAA storytelling is dead... Uncharted 4 and Final Fantasy XV are on their way, as well as the Witcher's 'Blood and Wine' expansion, then there's Horizon: Zero Dawn and Mass Effect Andromeda in 2017 and Cyberpunk in 2077 (probably)!
