Maybe they'll say that Uncharted 2 is a lot like Uncharted only it's Uncharted on fire, going 130 miles per hour through a hospital zone, being chased by helicopters and ninjas. And the ninjas are also on fire.
Oh no- Uncharted was on fire anyway. I wonder how many people recognise the quote I've adapted?
The reason that there are still so many Dreamcast articles is that its relative lack of sales kind of marks a year (2001) when, to paraphrase Don Mclean's 'American Pie', 'the gaming died'.
As a non-animate object that is still in people's homes, the Dreamcast didn't really 'die', especially as it still has games being made for it Japan- but it is certainly dead in the minds of most of the mainstream.
Of course, some consoles and genres of gaming have gone from strength ...
Politicians argue as to who as the best policies/philosophies. If it's OK for them, why not for gaming?
The forums talk more about the best games than the games companies do. You'd think that Uncharted was only worthy of being considered a niche game given the lack of marketing that Sony seemed to do for it.
They had a game that some say is the best of the generation and they decided to devote their resources to taking on the Xbox 360 at its own game- the FPS. Killzone 2...
The thing that people forget is that the original Xbox had problems too- they replaced the power unit because otherwise the console overheated if it was left on too long. My original Xbox actually made a crackling sound as the electricity coursed through the lead in to the console. Microsoft skimped on the quality (mind you, I think none of the consoles of this generation are brilliantly designed/manufactured). One of the things that I liked about the Dreamcast and the Gamecube is that they w...
'Resident Evil' is more multi meaning than Biohazard in the context of the games. Not only does it refer to evil that is resident in the mansion or other environments, in the form of zombies/mutated animals but that evil that infests those zombies/mutated animals.
I think that the way that games studios always seem to think that minimalism is necessarily more suited to European game art though is a bit predictable though. The American Gamecube Resident Evil remake had a zombie ...
Adventure is such a broad term. For some its point and click games, for others it includes 3D platformers, for others it includes survival horror games, for others it can have a few platforms but must mostly be about combat/shooting and puzzles such as Half Life 2 (which itself contains some survival horror elements) or Bioshock.
The Dreamcast was no doubt one of Sega's high points in terms of the quality of their hardware and software, although not sales compared to their competition. However, they have still had critically acclaimed games since such as Jet Set Radio Future, Super Monkey Ball, F Zero GX and Outrun 2. They also released a great arcade game in 2006 called Let's Go Jungle. I know that some people think that the Sonic the hedgehog series has become over-complicated by extra characters and ideas but I hav...
Fisrt person shooters such as Half Life 2 and Metroid Prime (although that game mixes in some other elements as well such as platforming) are nothing like the sports game analogy. They are not about amassing points to try to look good against people you've never met in another part of the world. They're about enjoying a deep adventure and puzzle solving as well.
Something like Quake 3: Arena is a different thing but, frankly, I play games to experience a great game, and usuall...
Just think, a few centuries ago, if 'psychologist' had existed as a job, the headline would have been 'Quill and ink rage recognised as everyday expression of anger'. And it would have been just as useless as this story.
I also think that Little Big Planet won't spawn many imitators- not well known ones anyway.
The success of the Wii may have suggested that more people wanted to engage with their games in a more direct way but the truth is that most people are lazy and/or uncreative/unoriginal. The Wii attracted them because it was an uncomplicated concept for new starters to gaming- it made things easier for them and could be dipped in to for just minutes at a time. Little Big Planet demands t...
Tonywood24, although your concern for fellow man is admirable, I reckon that, given Capcom's previous form for creating highly produced games of genius (the Resident Evil Gamecube remake being a favourite of mine) I think that such racists, if they exist in any number at Capcom, would find more private and cost-effective ways of exercising this than embarking on a project lasting years and costing hundreds of thousands of pounds to knowingly besmirch the Resident Evil name with racism.

“…what you’re seeing is this average business model, the typical business model of, say, the five to six year generation of hardware is just not valid anymore. The Wii is a very approachable, accessible platform that’s going to interest gamers for years to come.”
Translation: At the moment we've made so much money from the Wii that we're using £50 bank notes as toilet paper. Spend money on creating new technology in a few years time? Are you mad? Half our new buyers are gr...
Defence lawyer Timothy Spencer QC told the court: "The genesis of this tragedy bizarrely lies with the purchase of the PlayStation."
No, it lies in the genesis of a relationship between an ugly murdering useless piece of waste matter and his younger 'partner'. Some partnership.
I am appalled to think that judges with their seemingly near blanket aversion to all videogames (although I bet some LOVE to make a point of how they like the Wii) may accept 'vi...
Project Dolphin was presumably called that because the Gamecube has a 'Flipper' processor. Sega could have released an Ecco the dolphin game for them!
I think that the Microsoft name itself is boring:
"Let's see- we make 'software'. We make them for 'microcomputers'. I know! Take part of one word and attach it to part of the other! Computerware! No, that's not quite right. Let's choose a SLIGHTLY less bland name...."
What about the Micros...
Some people talk a lot of nonsense about RE4 (I haven't played RE5 but they also say the same thing about that as well)- they say that it isn't 'survival horror' any more. Well, if trying to get away from a man with a bag on his head carrying a chainsaw isn't a case of 'survival' or 'horror', what is? There were some very scary moments in RE4- scary in terms of the sheer violence of some of the enemies but also in the classic Resident Evil sense of not knowing when something is going to come ...
So Bioshock 2 is set in 1970? No wonder things haven't got better for Rapture. At least the outside real world would have really started to look about the same as Rapture in this decade with unburied dead and rubbish piling up.
I reckon that Ken Levine is saving himself for Bioshock 3 set in 1980, where dystopian socialism has been replaced by conservative Thatcherism. Bioshock 3 will be more Bladerunner I reckon- did I mention Ridley Scott went to my school?
"Billy Pidgeon, an analyst with IDC, agreed that digital downloads were the way forward.
"Companies that make disc-only games will be the dinosaurs of the future."
When I hear comments like that, I think that the people who say it sound like the dinosaurs of the future or SHOULD sound like the dinosaurs of the future, even if that future is years ahead.
Even if you say that gramophones become redundant when records came out, and viny...
Soxfan2005, you said exactly what I think although, to be fair, the SNES did have some good games also e.g Super Mario World and Donkey Kong Country and multiformat games tended to look and sound better on the SNES.
However, although the SNES had better technical specifications on paper, the Nintendo style didn't always display this in the same way as the flashier Sega style. The Megadrive also had a processor that ran at about twice the speed of the SNES, which makes me wonder...
I don't think that the next Xbox will be called the Xbox 720. The name is too reminiscent of the lower High Definition technical specification. I know that people need to refer to the next Xbox in some way but why not just 'the next Xbox'?
Even though 720 would be 2 x 360, in the tradition of referring to consoles as having double the number of bits of either their predecessor or that of a rival company, Xbox 1080 would be more likely than that as a name I think, if a number is...
The article says:
'When I first saw the game back in 2005, it offered many innovations, perhaps most profound of which was its unique use of light and darkness inside the game. The light/dark motif not only serves as a major plot point in the story, but it's used as a crucial component of the gameplay as well. Yes, you'll get to wield weapons as Alan Wake, but you'll also make use of things like flashlights, which will help you push back or even cause harm to the shadow men whe...
