Sony has (had) 3 platforms available.
Developers simply make more money with Sony overall when you consider that Sony has a PS3, PSP, and a PS2 for developers to sell their games.
It wouldn't be surprising to hear that Developers probably collect bonus royalty rates for developing for all 3 of Sony's video game systems or even 2 out of 3.

-XBOX 360 has moved over 5 million units worldwide.
PS3 has outsold the XBOX 360 every CALENDER YEAR starting with 2009, and 2011 looks to be no different.

Microsoft wanted to release early with last gen media, and they bet the wrong horse with HD-DVD.
They lost that bet and now, for better or for worse, XBOX 360 is stuck with what it has.
There's no going back now....unfortunately.
Next generation, XBOX 3 will hopefully (and probably) have BluRay. Unfortunately, we are 2 or 3 years away from getting that.
Sony's 1ST QUARTER of the year, it doesn't start until APRIL 1.

Microsoft is in trouble and they know it.

Steam is a competitor to Microsoft.
If Microsoft was to concede to letting Steam on XBOX 360, then it would be Microsoft admitting defeat of GFWL, and by extention would also signal weakness with WINDOWS.
It would signal that Microsoft's hold on the OS market is significantly waning. There are already some signs of this happening already, but Microsoft isn't ready to admit this as this would be a terrible business strategy.

If they were, they would have announced it already. And Microsoft, as a SOFTWARE company doesn't have the ability or capability to turn out a a system that quickly.
And they're certainly not gonna do that (spend a few BILLION) in the middle of a financial crisis just to be able to do 1080p.

We knew about XBOX 360 years before it had a name and years before it was "officially announced".
