If Square do decide to go with an English-only game, I hope they make the characters slightly less stereotypical-sounding this time around. I couldn't stand Cloud and Aerith's voices in Advent Children and Vincent's stilted monotone in Dirge of Cerberus, though Cid and Yuffie's voices eventually grew on me.
"None of them were in it cause it was Zack's story, not Cloud's, that's how it makes sense."
No, they weren't in the original FF7 story because Square hadn't invented those subplots yet.
"It's just like the story with before Crisis. Cloud was a normal soldier through Crisis Core. It was important to have the story if the great 3 soldiers story told."
Why was it important though? According to...
"How much more gripping would the game be if some of its most memorable (and hence anticlimactically predictable) moments weren’t carved in stone?"
WTF? Why would you want to see the game's memorable moments to be changed? If you want a story that isn't predictable, then play a new game. Don't play a remake and then complain when the story is the same as the game that's being remade!
He's pointless because he didn't add anything to the overall FF7 canon and basically only exists because Crisis Core needed a villain. But many of the things that Square changed or added (Genesis being the one who pushed Sephiroth into insanity at Nibelheim, the Loveless play having a ~deep~ and ~significant~ meaning, the whole Shinra creating one-winged soldiers storyline, etc) weren't needed, and it's especially jarring because none of these things were in the original FF7 g...
Huh. It's interesting that they decided to keep the original Japanese language.
Nooooooooooooo! Please don't include Genesis, Square. He's such a pointless character who ruined a classic scene (the Nibelheim incident).
It's sad how often this topic seems to come up. Game publishers don't seem to give gamers enough credit. You would think that people working in the game industry would be the first to dispel the stereotype that gamers are lonely virgins living in their parents' basement who only want to play games about shooting and army men, yet they seem to be the ones who uphold that stereotype the most. It's 2015 ffs! Most people dont care if a protagonist is female, male, black, white, as...
Wouldn't it make more sense to put Star Fox 2 on VC to create interest and hype before Star Fox Zero is released? It's been a while since the last Star Fox game came out after all.
I might be alone here but I really hope they don't include Genesis in the ff7 remake. He's such a useless character and wouldn't add much to the ff7 story without feeling shoe-horned in.
Needs more random blimps in the sky. lol
I see it!
On one hand I'm really excited for this game. On the other hand I'm terrified that if it DOES see the light of day, it might end up looking nothing like that initial trailer considering how long its been in development.
That's an unfortunate logo for the game.
I'll admit I'm pretty sad that they've dropped Stella and her childhood link to Noctis with the 'light' storyline. It's especially sad considering how excited Nomura was about her role in the story, and how she would stand out compared to other female FF characters.
I used to have the biggest crush on her back in my PS1 days (even though she isn't real. Hey, I was a kid!). I thought she was one of the prettiest and most realistic looking girls I'd ever seen in a game. Its so weird seeing her years later and realizing how far graphics have come since then!
I get what you're saying Greyfoxdbz. I certainly don't think that characters should be kept in a game if they become redundant or no longer fit into the story. But I still feel a bit sad learning that a female character who looked to have an interesting role in the story has been dropped, because female characters in FF have (for the most part) always been pretty well rounded and realistically depicted. I don't think it's necessarily that people are arguing for representation ...
Gender doesn't always matter, but one thing I like about earlier FF games is how well-rounded and realistic the female and male characters were always written. Women and men interact in the real world every day and the FF games always acknowledged that. So hopefully we will see some decent female characters along the road in FFXV besides just Cidney and Luna.
That's a shame. I really liked her design and what few details we knew about her sounded intriguing.
Yeah it was a strange choice to change the main character models, especially since none of the NPCs were updated. Some are improved IMO, but others are definite downgrades. The one that stuck out to me was Seymour Guado's new look. I have no idea what Square were thinking when they changed his face to....this:

The problem with making it like Kingdom Hearts or FFXV's gameplay is that we would then only be allowed to control Cloud and nobody else. The remake doesn't neccessarily have to be turn based, but not allowing us to control more than one character would be a big mistake IMO. If Square could somehow make it a fast paced battle system where would control all the characters, then that would be great.
