Curious as to what excuses the spam was saying. Because prior to this news, the Xbox handheld was used as proof that Xbox is still committed to the hardware space. This handheld being scraped is not a good sign...

Can't see something that isn't a big deal as giving someone plenty of money already.
Future of Xbox hardware isn't exactly certain right now so I doubt that is the reason. SE mostly likely felt that the exclusive deals weren't working for them as their sales projections were consistently missed, but results like this remind them why they did it in the first place. Wouldn't be surprised if Sony was paying them more than they would have made than releasing on Xbox.
Also to your point about FF fans buying PS over Xbox due the history of exclusivity...
