They made a bet that didn't pay off. The hope was that many people would subscribe for day ones, but that didn't happen so now they have to increase the price. I wouldn't be surprised if another increase happens next year.

I'm saying that I can justify games being $100 using the value you are getting based on the number of hours you are pouring into said game. Now does that make it any less upsetting an increased happened?

Again the whole thing about gamepass is the low monthly fee. You can still raise it a several more dollars and it will still be of "value" on paper, but it won't be affordable anymore. Can make the same argument of "value" for $100 games about how much hours you are getting out of a game to defend a price hike.

All I will say is that when it comes to Microsoft, it's better to look at their actions rather than what they say.
See, that's the issue that a lot people have in general. We wait until we are screwed over for us to actually complain instead of being preemptive. By the time arrives it will be too late an people pay willingly because they are invested and and the $5 or $7 fee isn't "that much" (for now). We already have examples of what subscriptions services in other industries are like. Doesn't take much imagination on how bad it will be down the line.
Free ad tier will be temporary. It will eventually become a low entry ad tier.
