"The entire xbox brand is run on subsidization."
And that matters why? We play games, we aren't investors. As long as the games keep coming and Microsoft doesn't go bankrupt, aren't gamers happy & winning?
If Sony or Nintendo had Office, Windows and Azure, you can guarantee they would be subsidizing their games consoles with them.
@dbcoops Then the simple solution is to buy whichever platforms you need to cover the games you want to play ;)
I have a gaming PC (mainly for RTS & some FPS games) and a PS5 for everything else, that covers my needs currently. Seems pretty straight forward to me.
Start trouble? I just pointed out the obvious that not every game pass game is available on PC... I have a PC gamepass subscription and quite a few games are missing.
@dbcoops What did I portray it as that wasn't accurate? I wrote "Xbox ended up with more nominations than Nintendo and Sony combined" - which part of that statement is false? I'll hold.
And in terms of number of award nominations, they did outperform everyone else - they have the most nominations.
"What this awards shows is how bad of year Microsoft got."
Definitely! Imagine launching an expensive console that is selling so well it is unavailable everywhere and only stays on shelves for seconds & then launching a bunch of 80-90+ metacritic games in a year, clearly equivalent to their worst year in history /s
But what does that say about the rest of the industry then, if a 'bad year' outperformed everyone else?
Not all gamepass games are on PC - a good amount are Xbox only.
Why would you care if someone plays Playstation published games on PC?
@dbcoops Which matters why? Do the awards get re-routed someplace else in that case?
PN2 was pretty awesome, probably the most fun I've had in a game this year - was sad when it was over. Hope they make DLC.
Which matters why?

If you'd told me this would ever happen back in 2013, I would've laughed at you and called you crazy. What a turn around.
Whether the games are cross-plat or not, they are still developed/published and sold by Xbox.
Xbox actually ended up with more nominations than Nintendo and Sony combined, which is kinda crazy:

@Magog But the reality is, 99% of games are 'one and done' situations.
The number of games I replay beyond completion or play for more than a few months are very few and far between.
I subscribe to gamepass on PC and I've easily consumed more content than the subscription cost. So it's a huge money saver for me, and likely for a lot of other folk.
My Friend Pedro is a fun little sleeper game - highly recommend checking it out!
@Magog That's not strictly accurate/true.
1. They need a Series X console for each person actively streaming at one time, so concurrent user counts, not one per subscriber.
2. A Series X is far cheaper than a typical datacenter blade that would be in Azure anyway
3. Cloud providers typically have their own leases for main backbones and bulk agreements, they aren't paying Comcast by the gigabyte like you are at home. That plus th...
"Same crappy feeling of paying for nothing."
We must have very different definitions of 'nothing'. Some of the highest rated games of the year are on GamePass.
@CBaoth So how many digital copies did Forza sell in the UK?
Until you know that number, you can't say people aren't buying games...
@gravedigger
"I've linked official Xbone numbers, VGchartz are estimated ones."
But you are comparing your 'official' numbers to VGChartz, so if VGChartz is unreliable and can't be trusted, you cannot use it for your comparison, therefore you have no idea if XSX outsold XB1 or vice-versa. Or is VGChartz only an applicable source when it supports your narrative?
You can't even begin to compare XSX to XB1. 20...
I did expect a lot of downloads, but I expected most of its numbers to be on Xbox really. Who knows what the Xbox numbers are though, the MS Store apparently also didn't let people download it so there's that.
Both PS5 and XSX have had games throughout the year, very few have been truly next-gen exclusive for both consoles though.
"it's consumer friendly, but bad for profit."
Right... and we are consumers, we care about things being consumer friendly, not about how much money the corporation makes.
@ApocalypseShadow
"Less sales than the previous game at launch is not a good look"
Hard to come to that conclusion though when all you have is half the picture...
How long until T2 shuts them down... good luck.
