Games are taxing the systems resources harder. More effects, smarter AI, more developed backgrounds and artwork. That is due to your monitor not running in its native resolution whereas the consoles upscale the image to 1080p prior to being received by your television. Thats why running anything other than your monitors native resolution (I am assuming 1080p, or 1440) looks terrible, it actually displays it at the lower resolution whereas consoles do not.
