This is another sign of Sony bleeding profusely. If I were MS smelling all this blood, I'd simply go in for the kill with the next Xbox and absorb the costs of specs superior to PS4, buy up major third party exclusives and drive the nail in the coffin. Not saying that's good for the industry of course, but business is business and putting the main competitor down is good business.

Precisely. Sony fanboys conveniently ignore the fact that the vast majority of good hardcore games are multiplatform and ad nauseum play up the exclusive card as if all exclusives count for much. Funny I feel PS3 is the worst console by far. Exploiting their fan base to win the blu ray war, using the crappiest architecture for gaming, offering a horribly cumbersome online interface and experience, coming up with half baked ideas like Home and Move and then the tremendous letdown that is GT5. I haven't played any games on that blu ray player for well over a year now.

MS only needs to worry about crap talk if it is actually capable of hurting their market share. Since neither the next Xbox nor the PS4 are in the market, crap talk can't do any present damage. Any potential future damage can be undone when MS announces their Xbox (assuming of course the announcement shows that the crap talk is untrue).
On the other hand, the crap talk is generating a lot of attention towards the Xbox. And that is surely what MS ...
Why not come out and say it? Just look at how everyone is looking at and talking about the Xbox now, that's why.
I would agree with this article headline if the PS4 was already out in the market ready to be sold. Adverse rumors of Xbox would result in gamers buying into PS4 and it would be prudent for MS to quell such rumors in that situation.
But seeing how PS4 is nowhere near release and there is therefore no real danger of fanbase movement, I would say the old adage holds true - ie. No publicity is bad publicity. As a result of these adverse rumors, all eyes are now on Xbox EVEN BEFO...
