I think there are plenty of other reasons one would consider FFXV not to be a traditional Final Fantasy game.

Having the most powerful system may not matter from a development point of view if they still have to support the vanilla xbox one.
I wouldn't say it's "only" worthwhile as a portable, but if it wasn't portable, I would've waited until Mario Odyssey to get one. Due to my lifestyle (family with kids), I don't get much time in front of a TV. I can spend more time with a handheld than I can with a TV.
