@xDealtwithIt The title is too niche because they didn't properly market any games from the franchise. Sony Europe CEO has pointed out the failure of his marketing teams on this issue, said he berated them. They got off easy, as most people get fired for repeatedly failing at their jobs. Its a matter of competence. They don't know how to market it. I didn't even know about the franchise until the HD remasters hit the PS3, and had I seen it on the shelf at Gamestop back in the day ...

Sony should be marketing the shit out of this. If it fails, sales wise, and turns out to be a good game, its all on them.

EDIT: Disagree all you want. You're wrong if you think Sony bears no responsibility for the failure of unmarketed 1st party products. This is extreme incompetence.

Just bought Ico and SotC HD to see what this series is all about. Hoping it turns out well cause I'm starving for a AAA gaming experience outside of the usual popular genre bubble.

Not a problem, brother.

"The PS3 was where I first shed a tear in gaming"

You should have played Tenchu 2 back in the day.

What killed 3rd party support for the Wii U was lack of console sales. Power had nothing to do with it.

There is very little in the modern realm of AAA that couldn't run on last gen hardware with a slight nerf to graphics. About the only thing I can think of that wouldn't work is Witcher 3. Just about all the innovation in modern gaming comes from indie devs. AAA devs waste most of the increased power of modern consoles on unnecessary levels of photorealism and detail. Have you forgotten that superior graphics have never driven the console industry? If the Switch sells well then publish...

This modern gen obsession with hardware is unhealthy for the industry. It will be powerful enough. The important question is software.

Its the holiday buying season. You're not going to hear anything about anything thats not actually on the market for purchase until after the current buying season is over. Thats why they have the big reveal event scheduled for January, and not sooner.

Ace Combat 7, the high possibility of a new Armored Core (original director went back to work for Fromsoft), Persona 5. I'm still holding out hope for a new Twisted Metal, myself. I feel ya, Modern consoles so far are light on mid to high tier games that aren't like everything else out there, but there are a few potential gems in the pipeline. This is why I hope that Nintendo Switch does well cause I don't think that system will work so well with the typical modern game, it being ...

The sphere grid in FFX was anything but over complicated. Every character had a linear path with small side pockets here and there. Only after obtaining sphere keys (or whatever they were called) could you wander off that path onto another characters linear path. Not to mention when you did take a character off of his/her own path onto another's, it was most likely deliberate because of the sphere locks and how rare the keys were early on. The crystarium in FF13 was even more straight for...

@feju Third party custom controllers with identical functionality have been available for 360 controllers, DS3, xbone controllers and DS4 for years. The Xbox elite controller were not the first to do this. This wouldn't be a copyright issue anyway, it would be a patent issue... if you could even patent such an obvious upgrade to controller. Technically speaking, you're not supposed to be able to patent "obvious inventions".

@morganfell How do you strain opinion from what is, inherently, an opinion piece. I could understand editing conclusions drawn from unfair or irrelevant standards i.e. slamming FFVI for not having a jump button or Gran Turismo for not having on foot free roaming but a review is a series of value judgments, and value judgments are subjective.

I distinctly remember reading reviews for Colony Wars and Bushido Blade before those games were released. Those were the only games I read reviews for before 5th gen so I can't say in general.

Its kind of sad that devs still have to come out and say it, especially where action games are concerned.

Kingdom Hearts is a great series for the most part. I think the writers kind of outsmarted themselves with the story but the game play is the pinnacle of action jrpgs.

I would certainly say that between psvr and everything else they are definitely splitting the software market when they lack a decent selection of mid tier to high tier games.

Absolutely.

For being 3 years in, their mid to high end software selection is bare bones.
