If I had the slow clap from Citizen Kane I would post it. I agree 1000% at the end where the author was discussing the desired direction to take the medium to, where something has more connection and immerson than just a "game." Where something emotional is interactive, not just a cutscene. Where something isn't a game, its interactive cinematic entertainment. Bravo sir, bravo...

Its not just about being "fun" you know. Its not the 80's, the experience is, as a whole, greater than the emotions that it produces. Look at Heavy Rain, fantastic experience, not a fun one.

God forbid I like my story to be in the actual game. I agree with Jaffe, I would have put it better, but I agree. Cutscenes are, at this point, mini-cgi movies. Props to games that don't use them and still find a way to tell stories. Props to Uncharted that includes controllable set pieces when others would use a cutscene. Props to Bethesda for having 90% of their games play out in realtime, conversations and all. Props to devs who don't want to break immersion and momentum. And props...

Half-Life 2 says hello. Don't mistake cutscenes for story.

Not really a fan of this, I want escapism, not virtual reality.

"in which case we'd rather watch a film" "Games are never going to tell a story as well as films ."

Lost me right there, lost me completely. You bet your ass that something that is more immersive than a film can tell a better story, devs are just restricted by current tech and what the opinion of society thinks they should do. Just let those who craft, craft. This train of thought is my biggest problem with the media in this industry right now; the i...

Aren't they working on another AAA beside Thief?

Why would ND feel like they need to make a movie version of what has already been done. It would be disrespectful to their previous work.

5337d ago 0 agree1 disagreeView comment

I'm sorry, but like I said in my post, that would be counter-productive. There is no need for a movie at all, it is already cinematic enough, already has those characteristics. I just don't see why everything needs a movie version, hell, when you do "cinematic" better than most movies it seems like you render the need a moot point.

Im sorry, but after seeing the Uncharted 3 footage I am 150% that we do not need a film adaptation of that series, it is cinematic enough. I am tired of this bullshit mentality that films are the "master medium," this is far from the case. The answer is not that we need more game to film undertakings, but instead we need more cinematic games, or as ND puts it, Interactive Cinematic Entertainment, instead.

Oh please, this guy makes it sound like it was some type of betrayel. Listen man, I got my Morrowind on the Xbox, my Oblivion on my 360, and I will be getting my Skyrim on the 360. Stop creating drama over nothing.

One universe, many, many stories.

In terms of content only. People always seem to confuse the quote with actual relevance to the story. Something can be the size of 10 games but not take it's place.

You sir, get it.

Uncharted 2 was the first time I had ever seen dynamic camera angles take the place of where a cut-scene should be, making it even more cinematic. I see a day very soon where we will not see cutscenes tell the stories but instead scripted events and dynamic camera angles and I welcome it with open arms.

I loved L.A. Noire. First experience to really put narrative on a pedestal and give it the respect it deserved. Yeah, it was flawed but what first game in a series isn't? I will always take L.A. Noire over Heavy Rain(which I still loved) anyday. Yeah Guy, we will go a few rounds...

I just want more titles....

If escapism becomes 100% realism then it ceases to be escapism, therefore becoming instead virtual reality, and I don't want that. The most realistic I ever want to get is close to the CG trailer for AC: Revelations.

Hahaha, hell no!!

I will always take narrative, immersion, and atmosphere over PWNING SUM BITCHES!!! I have always considered the potential for story telling(outside of cutscenes) in the interactive medium to be the greatest out of all of them(mediums)and given what has been seen with things like Bioshock Infinite and Uncharted 3, we are well on our way there.
