Is that an addition to or instead of? I wouldn't mind addition to; I think there should be more genres per IP, Halo Wars is a great example.

Once again, I will take scripted over cutscenes anyday.

About time we had someone trying to push more than just graphics forward in this medium...

I always find it ironic that Hollywood directors like Guillermo, Jackson, and Spielberg have a distaste for cutscenes. Always interested how they would tell stories alternatively...

In terms of cut-scenes, I feel we are getting to the point where we don't really need them anymore. I had doubt about the future of this medium's presentation...then I experienced Uncharted 3.

You do realize Uncharted isn't first person, correct? I would argue that it would be possible to do such things in in real-time scripted movements. Hell, don't you remember when Cutter and Drake were squeezing through the rocks, the close-up detail on their character models were cut-scene quality.

I agree, I personally do not feel the desert sequence in UC3 would have had the same impact if it were a cutscene.

Formula needs to change. I think we are very close to the day when game developers tell the game's story as opposed to outsourcing it. I find cutscenes to be intrusive sometimes, but for the most part they are so "loved" because thats all we know. If Levin believes it, lead the pack and try to change the industry through action and influence. Cutscenes are what we know, but I would always take scripted events over them. Cutscenes exist from a time where we couldn't do such ...

Not always, see the masterpeace which is majora's mask. Anyway, there is an idea that Ghirahim might be working for someone else.

I liked it until Ganon showed up. I swear to God, if Ganon is in Skyward sword I am going to snap the disk in half.

I like UC3 more than UC2, and honestly I don't see the argument for UC3's lack of innovation hurting it being valid at all. Honestly, what is "gameplay" and mechanics if not an empty palette to paint a great story and experience on. Innovation for innovation's sake is pointless and Uncharted 3 did not really need to offer a new way to experience it at all, I wanted another story from Drake's life and I got it. What ever happened to the idea of "If it isn't b...

Am I alone liking UC3 more than UC2?

I too must also respectfully disagree. Through camera angles never seen in this medium before, Uncharted 3 was able to give me "cinematic" without making it cinema, ala Heavy Rain. As for the story, Uncharted 3's story fit Uncharted 3; it wasn't about the villians it was about Drake and his internal struggle against the man he is versus the man he wanted to be. Heavy Rain was sad, yes, but at too many points it felt forced, I have always been more affected by subtlety, somet...

I wouldn't say that at all. I have played Heavy Rain and enjoyed it, but most people seem to forget that that genre has been around for ages, just in small doses. Unchrted 3 challanges presentation where Heavy Rain focuses too much on QTE. Heavy Rain was good, but I had played Shenmue well before it came around...

Uncharted 3 stands as an interactive cinematic experience where Heavy Rain is a great return of the adventure genre.

I know I am gonna get some flack for it, but i kinda don't want UC3 to win "Game of the year" due to the fact that I can't really recognize it as a game. To me, it is in a league of its own at this point. I think the duty of a game is to put you in a world but as interactive cinematic entertainment, UC3 gave me a story to be passionate about as well characters to care for. To call UC3 linear implies that it could be anyway else and still retain the same level of quality and ...

I thought the story, pacing, and atmosphere blew UC2 out of the water. Uncharted is the embodiment of a PG-13 Blockbuster, anything extra would be excessive and unnecessary.

5251d ago 1 agree1 disagreeView comment

If I want a story to experience, UC is the way to go. If I want to be transported to a world, Skyrim is my approach. People who say there isn't room for both are idiots. If we had more experiences like UC3 then we wouldn't need *hitty Hollywood adaptations. UC3 might not have had the innovation that 2 had but I would still say it was a better experience. What is gameplay if not a Palette for story. I will never understand those who will knock something done if it doesn't take leap...
