I don't totally agree. It is right to fund great games, but a heavy budget on a AAA game doesn't mean it's going to be a great game. Nowadays, the big publishers are essentially focusing on AAA games for the hardcore audience and F2P models for the casual audience.
But modest developers (and by that I don't necessarily mean indie devs) are perfectly able to shape good games with modest budgets, too. Vanillaware's games, Nier, Majin & the Forsaken Kingd...
Honestly, I'm surprised people are discovering the sexy part of Metal Gear.
- MGS1: Sniper Wolf's boobs, Meryl's panties;
- MGS2: naked Raiden, Olga's sexy armpits, Fortune's leotard;
- MGS3: Eva's boobs and pipe show, The Boss' scar;
- MGS4: Naomi's boobs, all Frogs are women, being able to jiggle Rose's breast, B&B Corps and the hidden photo shoot;
- Peace Walker: zooming on female characters in cutscenes show t...
After watching BadComedian's video, I have to agree with him. The main problem isn't that Russia is very badly depicted in Company of Heroes 2, the problem is that developers insist it's an "historically accurate story".
If developers just said it was a fictive story with 0 peanut given to historical accuracy, then no one would get mad. But portraying Russia as an evil and coward country that doesn't care much about cruelly killing its own comrades, ...
Somehow, I was imagining Riley taking a knife to save your life, then he takes the knife off his chest and throw it into the villain's eye. I'd definitely buy that kind of game.
It depends how much of a prologue it will be.
If it's a 70€ Virtuous Mission-like prologue, then gamers may be seriously upset, but if it's a Star Wars-like prologue, the use of several games for the same storyline may be justified.
I have to admit I'm quite afraid about that, so I hope it wont be the worst case scenario.
MGS: PEACE WALKER END SPOILER
If I remember correctly, the (real) end of Peace Walker implied Les Enfants Terribles was already started during the events of the game.
Regarding the first question, Konami already said that Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes will be a prologue for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and will be sold as a separate game.
So MGS:GZ and MGS5:TPP are two games around the same storyline.
You can see it in action at the end of the video :D
Very impressive, I can't wait to see that technology in future video games, even if we may have to wait years for that.
Wait, so that whole story about Mew under the truck was a LIE? :O
I lived so many years with the regret of not having the right Pokémon at the right time so I can get to that truck, and all this was a lie? :O
Great selection of great games.
They're all very different but they can bring you an interesting experience. I bought the bundle, even if I already have most of them. I'm especially curious to see Proteus, this game always intrigued me.
Definitely. The entire Gamasutra article is far more interesting than this 'out of context bashing opportunity'.
I bought it when it was still in alpha just for its artstyle, and indeed it's a really great game.
It surely is quite difficult at first, you have to realize and understand the gameplay mechanics and what you should do to stay alive, but once you got it, nothing can stop you.
That's basically the same way to survive as Minecraft. At first, you're a noob, so you explore, you do dangerous stuff and you die quite quickly, but you gain experience, and the more...
Edit: Nevermind, I misread. Still excited for Metro Last Light :D
Metro 2033 was really great. It's very enjoyable to play games with such details in its universe, like Bioshock or Dishonored.
IMO, a deep and solid background universe is what can make a game great.
I strongly disagree with the author regarding the Metal Gear Solid database.
Not only Metal Gear Solid series cutscenes are far from being a torture like he seems to say, but MGSDB isn't necessary to understand the MGS story.
Yes, there's plenty of text. Yes, it may be complicated for whoever isn't fond of Metal Gear Solid. But it's a good addition if you want to know more about the series background, context and story.
Metal ...
In my opinion, Grasshopper Manufacture is one of the only studios that understand how video games should be.
Killer7, Lollipop Chainsaw, No More Heroes, Shadows of the Damned,... Their games are certainly pretty weak technically, but they are very fun and enjoyable.
Most games these days take their role too seriously, they become very generic for the sake of immersion, but they forget the most important: the experience. What matters in a video game isn't ...
Pintheshadows: Are you talking about Kill.Switch?

Well, in terms of camera behavior, there was Fade to Black that used a similar system.

One can argue if we can consider it as "over the shoulder gameplay".
I'd love a comeback of Patapon and LocoRoco on Vita. Those were awesome games on PSP and I sincerely believe the Playstation Vita can offer new gameplay opportunities.
But Mirror's Edge would be great too. The iOS version is pretty sweet and shows there's still room for touch controls on that kind of games (even if I would prefer a 3D version like on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360).
The article explains pretty much what is wrong with gaming journalism these days: everything relies on flamebait and sensationalism, and to fuel that, so-called gaming "journalists" mostly take out-of-context quotes from industry guys and write their headlines with that.
Other websites see the topic is potentially going to be huge, so they transmit those out-of-context quotes, etc... In a matter of days, you have articles from major blogs and sites, elated communiti...
