The GTX 280 price has dropped drastically.
I bought a SSC 280 off the bat for 670$, you can get a better clocked FTW edition for just 470$ now.
The graphics look nothing special in game, if anything Great graphics in an MMO is a mistake ( see AoC) and the gameplay obviously is not fun, if anything it's something to fill that vast gap of free time you have. If you find fruitless labor entertaining, by god knock yourself out!
I have a SSC GTX 280 and a E8400 3ghz Core 2 duo, and with using folding@home, my GTX 280 DEMOLISHES my E8400 in performance.
I have to agree, but only to this article. They are some VERY low quality shots compared to all others I have seen before.
That looks like absolutely nothing special. MMO's need a big ass overhaul in gameplay and mechanics if they want to become even remotely enjoyable.
I just bought a Super Super clocked (SSC) version of the GTX 280, and it runs Crysis very high 1280x1024 4xAA 8xAF never going below 60 fps.

WITH YOUR ULTIMATE KNOWLEDGE, please oh please tell me why a quad extreme costs over $1000 while a cell in a PS3 costs much much less? Please also tell me why with the ULTIMATE POWER OF THE CELL, why couldn't the PS3 just ray-trace all of it's graphics with it's "218" theoretical Gflops at native 1080P at 120fps?

Also, back at says you, a fool like me would, a 1GB version of a 512MB card is quite a bit more expensive, and 512 is FINE at medium~high resolutions. Only cards that will be gaming on 1920x1600 or higher really need the 1GB. Also, look at next-gen console video cards, the PS3's RSX has 256 of dedicated memory, and the 360 has 512 shared, having huge amount of memory on a video card won't benefit it at all.

First of all the article is about the GTX 280, which has 1024MB.
Next, 6GB on a card would make it
1 - f***ing huge
2 - f***ing expensive
and
3 - f***ing unnecessary
from what I've seen so far, it's only GDDR5.
But they plan to use GDDR5 in the 4870, all I have to say is, holy crap, they just skipped GDDR4, haha. That will haul some memory bandwidth.
The 9800 GTX scores about 5003 in 3Dmark vantage, so while the HD 4850 scores just above 5000, ATI's flagship card, the HD 4870 will follow the 4850 with even higher scores.
