Uncharted would be best described as a platformer with third person shooting elements. Action adventure games are usually not very story laden and involve navigating the level as your main objective. Indeed you are correct in your assumption.. When you compress data to fit a disk you do take a hit in overall fidelity. Having all of your data in uncompressed form on a disc also aids in loading as well which can significantly improve your draw times and refresh rates which in turn keeps FPS up.
