Nintendo has voiced from the top that they want a region free scenario. Was it Miyamoto or Iwata...somebody said it..lol

Well they could always launch with an awesome first party selection (hopefully sizzling hot). Hopefully NX is very easy to develop for (extremely even). As long as the third party games are "brand new" games launching maybe on other platforms (not ports of previous third party) it can be strong.
I see it as whatever their next handheld will be..it will work with the NX's similar coding for games. Sold alone or maybe with bundles. Not confusing to me. Reggie has said the NX is indeed a "home console".

Well the article stated that too. But reasoned since it is on Nintendo 3DS, why would Nintendo compete with the 3DS version in any way? Would make more sense to compete with the PS4 version.

You are making a LOT of sense. Nintendo has to be smart about what they can price NX at for gamers to bite, the level of power it has and how to "woo" third parties back. The Nintendo Woo haha...
And NX should have something unique from a gamers perspective...not a fad but unique.
Metroid (proper sequel..lol) is virtually confirmed for NX. According to the producer of Prime and Reggie...lol

Well that is a interesting point I never really thought about. I always assumed Nintendo NX would launch first (2017) and then a year later Sony and MS would launch their next consoles. But I never thought that Sony and MS would keep PS4 and Xbox One out for 4-5 more years with NX (2016 launch) being as or slightly more powerful (or less) alongside them. Could go either ...
Very beautiful and touching artwork. I'll never forget his kind voice. His legacy lives on with Nintendo and the awesome games he executive produced. We lost one of the good guys.

You do know they make MONEY off of Wii U right? They don't LOSE money on any Wii U units sold. So what really is a flop? Nintendo is NOT dying!
But these numbers prove why it does not feel as bad as N4G Sony fans make it out to be. Worldwide is different, but looking at USA numbers....that is why it does not feel like Wii U or Xbox One is doing bad. I bet the majority of these people have at least two of the three consoles.
I say do a powerful system and try to make a profit while gaining more fans. Wii U is a profit at the end of the day. It just has a small fan base. They need at least N64 level of fans....great games, powerful hardware will sell. Maybe not 100 million, but it will sell way more than 10-20 million.
