It used to be like that but with Plus that has changed. There are many demos that come to Plus first and then everyone has to wait for it. Most recent one I can think of was Forced Unleashed 2.

I'm seeing a lot of specials on XBL memberships and even many stores throwing a year in free with a console purchase. I believe you also get 30 days free when you buy a new console. At least it used to be that way.
I hate that MS charges but if you look around just a bit you can usually get memberships for much less than the going rate.

It's nice that PSN has a lot of the demos up for the games. You can get a lot of play time just using the demo's alone. Time Crisis is one I'm enjoying right now.
I can only recommend what I have played so I would say Move or Wii would be great alternatives if you can't find a Kinect. I'm hearing MS has done good with keeping stores supplied so you should be able to find whatever you prefer as long as you don't wait to the last week before X-Mas.
I am in an apartment with about 5.3 feet from the TV to where we play. The camera is sitting on top of a 67" TV and 2 people have been able to play it just fine. The only thing I've had a glitch with is when a player jumps out and a new one jumps in. The player has to clear the view of the camera but with a little trial and error it's not a big problem.
Tough tits to those it doesn't work on.. Take it back you should have no problem getting a refund.

OH man I so want one.. But the fact it's IR and I don't want to have another USB device sticking out of my PS3 makes it a deal breaker. Glad to see it is well below the SRP they were looking at when it was first announced.
