There are 2 options in the menu. One for doing voice chat and one for voice commands. I simply have mine set to voice commands and then off for chat. Simple stuff for most but there are always people who don't take personal responsibility and expect Kinect to do it for them.
I don't leave my Xbox on when I'm not playing or watching media so it's not like a bug which I would have no control over. If you are really that paranoid just unplug it.
It sounds to me like all your complaints can be worked out with software updates as the device matures.

Then you my friend have narrow vision. Are we not reading the same articles?? I can find you plenty of negative Kinect articles doing the same trashing routine the PS3 got.
You just so happen to post this in a more positive article. I think Kinect has been through a lot from the "can't see dark skinned" FUD all the way to the "10 reasons why it fails" and the thing isn't even a week old.

The pack in stuff in Kinect does as good of job as the Wii did. But the device really does make you think about the future of it.
I will stick with Kinect like I sticked with the PS3. Hopefully the gamble pays off as well.

I already own it but I will be buying it again on PS3. It is just that good and I love Bioware that much. Will be nice to all the DLC on one disc. Shame EA is their pimp, not a fan of giving them even a dime of my money..

Because MS knows the core gamer does not want to play it that way.
How much are you going to play KZ3, MAG and Socom with Move? Core gamers will always go back to the controller, if all the talk on N4G is to be believed.
I look at it as Kinect makes the 360 2 consoles...
I own both and own Move and Kinect so I will be enjoying it all. Be real with yourself and understand they all offer something great and it is you who are missing out by just owning one.
Killzone and Socom have Move as an optional controller. I think people are going to prefer playing it with a controller given the chance.

I own it. It works as advertised just need some games that appeal to me.
Now that I own it I can see the haters and the baiters for what they are and how much is based in fact and how much is over-blown fanboy nonsense. There are some legit complaints but for a new device I can accept that. I do see a ton of potential for the hardware as we move forward.
I really hope the developers embrace it and think of creative ways to incorporate it into upcoming game...

The fact these articles are hung up on the whether it is sold out or not just shows the lack of interet in the device itself and more about having another fanboy pee pee war.
I gotta say I've seen a lot of stuff coming from PC World. One post they said the device has great potential and then thrashing it in others.
I'm trying to find the motivation of why these PC guys are riding Kinect so hard. Is it because they aren't getting attention with the device? I did not see them so vocal about Move or Wii.

You need lots of space: True. Many won't be able to play Kinect because of this fact.
* I live in an apartment and have about 6 feet between me and the TV. No problem.
Lighting constraints: True. Too low or too bright are an issue for Kinect.
* I played the thing with all my lights on and just 1 single 60wat bulb lamp positioned to the right of the TV. No problems at all.

Yes, seems unfair to compare right now since I read there are digital PC downloaders unable to play the game.
