Yeah, MS as a company pretty much blew it in every market. They easily could have been the Android of smartphones, the Steam of PC gaming, the king of console gaming, etc.
They were had almost compete domination 10 years ago but instead of leading they dismissed other tech innovations only to follow later but now it's a too late. They can't even crack smartphones OS. A web browser company destroyed them in the OS business.

Ok fine, even if the MS defence force was right that no one can tell the difference between 720p and 1080p, PS4 should just drop to 720p, cause it makes no difference right? and use all of that EXTRA power to make the game look even more superior to xone games by improving the other graphical effects.

I agree, it's ridiculous how many major sites like Gamesradar and Kotaku are downplaying Xone hardware issues. If it was reversed they'd be attacking the PS4 in every article taking about how much sharper and better things look. The true Xbox defence force is sadly the majority of gaming media.

I know it shouldn't matter, but knowing that I'm playing the noticeably visibly superior version of the same game despite paying $100 less for the console is going to add a lot to my appreciation of my next-gen console.

Tried to do Halo and didn't quite create an epic feeling. Maybe other commercials along the same vein will get that feeling across. Wasn't very impressed with this. Was much more impressed with Killzone 2 commercial.

I already have a laptop and my launch PS2 still works and so does my launch PS3.
I'm getting a PS4 but xbox would certainly be missed. Remember they set the standard for online console gaming and having it be a multimedia device.
Sony had to play catch up in terms if PSN when PS3 launched.
Xbox has made A LOT of bad decisions in the past 5 years (and obviously is getting worse) but they were leading in innovation not too long ago.
