"The designer did say he had a reason for that number... Not clever enough to work out why though"
You forgot or missed that it has to be done to keep the cost as minimum as possible.
I know that 825Gb or even 1TB might not much. But i think it's very normal for a 1st SKU, PS3 had only 40Gb and Xbox360 GoPro had 20GB. In addition, those SSDs (XSX's and even more PS5's) are very expensive.
Yes. I leave the judgement on the devs whether to use 30fps/60fps.
I have PS controller and i have to recharge it for hours. And i have Xbox controller with rechargeable battery in it, i have to recharge it for hours too.
Each has pros and cons. But basically, any other option available to power the controller won't be any useful to you since you'll find one sure way that you think the most comfortable.
Is there any "intelligent fanboy" out there?. To me, they're all stupid.
It's not a "system default" so it's different compared to the future consoles. Even if you have one on your PC, it's far from being optimized.
Super Mario Bros : a touch from an enemy, you die.
Devil May Cry : Even when Dante is standing still doing nothing, his enemies just moving circling around him, throwing only one or two attacks that take a long time to kill him.
It's the other way around. If you count only CPU+GPU, PS5 will be very similar to XSX, just different in raw power, makes PS5 to be the lowest common denominator.
Fast SSD may only be optimized for exclusives or selected titles, but even if it's not optimized, 3rd party titles can expect faster loading and i'm sure sooner or later, even multiplatorm titles developers will find a smart way utilizing those fast SSD even as late as year 2 or 3. It won't be as "alie...
Based on history, strength alone never enough to win console wars. Based on units sold, there are several possibilities :
1. Playstation wins
2. Nintendo wins
3. The weakest one wins
4. The cheapest one wins
5. The one that has most games library wins
6. - Combination of any of those factors above, except you can't combine no, 1 & 2 lol,
- Or by defacto, the one that has the most games library always (or almost always,...
Whether you misunderstood or not, the developer said himself that the use of SSD could reduce crunch, can't you just take that?
I hope less crunch and more games. This gen we have Uncharted 4, Lost Legacy, TLOU2 from Naughty Dog.
With less bugs, less crunch, i hope we'll have at least 1 more title from Naughty Dog on PS5, that makes it 4 titles per generation (i assume 5-6 years).
And i really expect at least 4-5 more exclusive titles on PS5's lifespan from 14 SIE studios.
Hmm. Very good read. Accurate or not, this is the kind of opinion i need for the last 40 hours.
PS4 doesn't have BC at launch and doesn't have even now, but they're still selling millions. XBO didn't have BC at launch also and still sold decent. And even after XBO have BC, it still can't outsell PS4.
In short, how important BC is very subjective. You maybe screwed but others aren't. It's nice to have BC, but for most people, that's not the main reason they buy nextgen console.
I see all those disagrees, it was different from back in the day pre-PS4 launch. Somehow, Xbox fanboys getting stronger for the past few years.
@Synthetic
Errr...i think Noctis and i basically writing the same thing (i think 0_0...). Of course being you boring or not it's up to you. I was just wondering, if you know the speaking is for the developers and not to.....you..., how can you say it "boring"?
And you wrote that "the problem is the presentation was for developers friendly yet not consumer friendly". You calling that was "the problem" clearly showed that you don'...
"Sony's approach was boring. While tech speak is interesting, most of us are clueless and want the specs, features showcased, and the actual console showcased.
Of course you are clueless, and so do i, and that wasn't supposed to be a reveal either. That speaking is for developers, not for consumers.
@Zeref
That's why i put " " mark on it. On the paper, it may not have anything to do with graphic processing, but i am sure it will have contribution on what will you be seeing on your display screen.
In addition it must have some purposes as to why the SSD speed is significantlly higher on PS5.
The I/O Throughput much faster on PS5. I have a hunch it will be like "processing graphics at free cost", i believe it will offer something like "stability".
Remind me of Dreamcast's advantage over PS2, that it had Anti Aliasing feature which made Dreamcast capable of displaying cleaner graphics "for free".
I'm not a technical guy though, it's just a hunch!.
If Sony reveal PS5 hardware months after XSX, then we can say that they are afraid and need to rethinking the strategy.
But Sony reveal the hardware 1 day after XSX proved that they think "if that's it...everything is gonna be alright then...",
I heard that too. We will be able to install SP/MP only, or maybe only install a chapter at a time. With that feature, it might not be that bad to have only 825Gb/1Tb after all.
Well, we WILL need to upgrade to a larger capacity drive eventually, but not at launch for sure. I can't imagine buying MGS4 or Ni no Kuni via PSN while my PS3 is still a fat PS3 with only 40Gb HDD.
