And also untrue. The PS4 on paper is 5x's more powerful than the PS3, not even accounting for the greatly simplified and efficient architecture. It takes 2.2 times the processing power to run comparable graphics at 1080P from 720P, so it can easily run whatever it wants at 1080, but with other effects and so on, well that's up to the developers isn't it?
PS2 just recently went out of production. Just because the PS4 is being released doesn't mean that the PS3 will stop being made so it's entirely probable that it will continue to be produced for a few more years yet.
It's unrealistic to have ever thought that Sony really expected a single console to last 10 years without a new one being released.
@ wsoutlaw Precisely. Leaked specs were pretty much dead on, so if they're to be believed, PS4 will be console for better quality games, and nextbox will be for allaround tv box with game capability.
For the record, I couldn't really care less about the sharing and other random stuff either, but the the PS4 on paper is 50% more powerful according to leaks.
Gotta say, I'll probably buy Shadowfall, and I'm not a FPS fan at all.
No, PS3 is a standard 5400 RPM laptop HDD.
How are they copying Nintendo exactly, Sony was showing off remote play with PS3 and PSP 7 years ago, and this is the next evolution of that. Not to mention they acquired Gaikai 6 months before WiiU came out, and that will be a huge part of their remote service too.
I doubt they'd be missing out on much in the US. Of that 119M, (which may actually have internet, it just isn't broadband according to the report) I think you're talking about groups of people that are unlikely to be engaging in such markets anyway, older generations for example.
This report http://gigaom.com/2012/09/0... says 90% of computer users do ...
I'd have to agree with CD Project. For me Skyrim's strength was in exploring the incredible world, but once I'd discovered most of the main areas/towns, the game became very boring.
Skyrim's biggest faults? Repetitive unimaginative quests, boring characters, and boring combat. That covers about 90% of the game, so that being said, I still haven't finished it.
They said that architecturally they're very similar, but power-wise Orbis is clearly more capable. It's like saying a 200HP gasoline car is more closely related to a 300HP gasoline car than it is another 200HP electric car.
Orbis has 14 CU's for rendering, which alone beats the 720, but it has 4 more for physics, AI, etc. so it doesn't even dip into that rendering power.
Actually Fox News is the news station that most consistently reports on the news and reports on it more accurately than other supposed news venues. There have actually been independent studies done on this fact.
Anyway, to the point, Mr. Sessler came across as well spoken and made some very good points. The fact is that blaming video games is as ridiculous as blaming guns. Unfortunately there are very disturbed people in this world and if they have come to a decision to enact...
I know that expenses and production costs have increased as companies try to compete to outdo one another, but I don't buy that it's because of HD and higher graphical fidelity.
Just look at games like The Witcher 2, it cost something like 10m USD to produce but had fantastic art direction and beautiful graphics. Then you have modders can outdo the developers in terms of texture quality and other enhancements for free in their spare time.
Not saying...
I think that most people realize that game companies need to make money. They have payrolls to meet, overhead costs, etc.
What blows my mind is that these guys have a working, profitable model, yet time after time, companies will dismiss the fans and niche that they've made for themselves by trying to obtain sales from a wider market that is very competitive and full of people that have no interest in their game. It's incredible to me.
I totally agree that this is the type of difficulty that I think games need to go back to, not just going up against overpowered enemies.
Personally, I do not consider Demon's/Dark Souls as "hard" but what they do is make you consider your environment, the enemies and your abilities in a way other games haven't done in a long time, and for me, that makes a much more enjoyable game.
Anytime you actually NEED to learn the mechanics and intric...
This is exactly how I feel about these types of games. I haven't played Far Cry 3, but generally with large, open world games like Skyrim or Fallout I eventually get bored.
It's too bad because with games like those, what initially seems amazing, eventually I just discover that there's so much to do, it just all ends up being the same. If it were less "stuff" and more interesting and focused, better paced story I wouldn't lose interest personally. ...
Pretty much any game made by Working Designs in the mid 90's was gold. In my opinion their LUNAR series surpasses any of Square's efforts on the SNES or PSX, it's just too bad so few people actually owned a Sega CD and missed out on their games.
While I don't care for how O'Reilly goes about saying certain things, he's almost always reasonable about whatever topic he happens to be discussing.
That's actually one of the things I dislike about his show, that he actually does play devil's advocate so that his show IS balanced and so that both sides are heard, I'd rather him just have a position and state it.
As far the article itself, it's an idiotic and contrived piece that ...
I think what you say may be partially true as far as the developers motives are concerned. The more powerful hardware would allow them to spend less money on optimizations and so forth for the newer hardware because it would be sufficiently powerful. However, that would only be true for a year or two. Competition within the industry would quickly force developers to step-up their game and produce higher quality games or else risk losing sales and fanbase.
Additionally, what y...
It's kind of sad that's the best list SE can come up with... Aside from summoning and "gorgeous beauty" I think most RPG's can fit that bill more or less, and in some cases other RPG's do fit it.
The Wii U is an underpowered system with a gimmick as it's primary innovation. While the new gamepad may be used in some interesting ways on first party games, there isn't a third party developer around that is going to make any worthwhile innovations or changes to take advantage of the gamepad on a multiplatform title.
Couple that with the fact that the next Xbox and PS are likely to be at least 2 times more powerful than the Wii U and I see it sitting in the corner...
Loved Dragon's Dogma. They did so many things right with that game and I had a lot of fun with it. Would love to see Capcom expand on the series!!
