The author and Sony are making the claim that the PS4 will be capable of providing the same online and cloud features as the Xbox One. What they are not doing is claiming that it is going to increase the power of their system by 3 or 4 fold because it isn't, for either system.

Dude, the graphical fidelity and AI have nothing to do with Xbone's "cloud computing", it's just due to the more powerful hardware compared to last gen. Xbone hardware that is inferior to the power of the PS4 by the way.

The cloud for Forza is just being used to copy and store your driving habits to make a bot based on you, big whoop.

PS. There are at most 100 zombies on the screen at a distance that requires little detail in that wide shot...

@logic

Actually the fact that games like cod are consistently the highest selling games each year doesn't prevent the Internet from representing the majority at all.

When you talk about "most" gamers not caring about scores, awards, etc. that conclusion isn't represented by the evidence because the majority, by a HUGE margin, of xbox/ps owners still do not buy cod each year, even if it's the most successful game.

I've never seen the original Evil Dead, but I just saw the remake last night and I have to say that virtually any 2-star horror movie on Netflix is better than that crap. What a terrible movie, wasn't scary at all, just gruesome and boring.

I agree. It's hard to say I believe that Nintendo won this generation with the Wii. The Wii was basically an afterthought for me, that was bought just because it existed and cost 30-50% of the other consoles, so why why not. So I owned the console but never turned it on or bought more than a couple of games for it.

MegaCD (SegaCD in the US) wasn't bad at all. In fact, it still has some of my favorite games of all time. It just cost $300 dollars 20 years ago...so it wasn't very affordable. I had it until a couple years ago, still have my Saturn and Dreamcast, but SegaCD was my favorite.

Completely agree, feels like cheat mode given the type of game. Luckily you can turn it off/not use it.

Looks like a fantastic game otherwise.

I'd love to see a next generation Shining Force sequel to I, II, and III. I think they could make some really great games if they stopped making spin-offs and releasing only in Japan :(

3 of the 15 consoles I've ever bought had backwards compatibility and it's never even crossed my mind as a factor in whether to buy or not. If you want to play PS3/Xbox360 games, keep your PS3/Xbox360. The machine may not last forever, but it will last long enough until other options for playing those games become available.

I never buy a game at full price that isn't at least 40 or 50 hours long. Even Uncharted, as fantastic as it is, I won't buy right away. I've made an exception for The Last of Us and pre-ordered it though, and playing on Hard the first time through I expect it to take 20+ hours.

Totally. And why would anybody fly in a 747 when they could have flown in a Concorde...

Nobody expects consoles to match the power of a high end 2k dollar pc, but Nvidia benefits from consoles, so why do they insist on bad mouthing them? It's the same as when people say things like, consoles hold PC's back. Not exactly.

With the exception of a few very good selling franchises, PC sales aren't high enough to justify the budgets of most AAA games. If developers were set on making games for the most powerful hardware, they'd all go bankrupt. So eith...

The "fantasy nonsense names and detailed lore" is one of the best aspects of games like Baldur's Gate, Dragon Age, and Mass Effect and part of what makes them so great.

What would you have them do? To many consumers the difference between the Developer and the Publisher is irrelevant. If anything maybe this gives the Developers recourse against the Publishers, more power to say, we made this great game, it's YOUR policies and practices that caused the game to tank, now just let us make the game the way want.

Exactly. What is it about not drastically changing the key elements of your already well regarded franchise that developers don't understand? That's how you lose fans.

In 300+ hours between Demon's/Dark Souls, I have never summoned a PC phantom, and I have never put my sign down to be summoned. Not interested.

I think it's of course convenient to have BC but when did this become a necessity? Thinking back to my early gaming days on the NES, Genesis, SNES, Saturn, Dreamcast...up to the N64/Gamecube, PS1/2/3, xbox/360, Wii/U only what, 4 had full BC?

If it's going to add cost to the machine to include, I'd personally rather do without or have that cost put towards more powerful specs.

According to the post, EA didn't say a word about increasing the price of the games, they said that development costs would increase. Entirely different.

In the context, while speaking to investors, it is a good thing that they expect costs to only increase 5-10%, remember when Epic's Tim Sweeney said next game production costs could double, triple, etc? http://www....

I see a lot of people posting around that they haven't seen anything truly "groundbreaking" or "innovative" with the introduction of the PS4 footage. I'm pretty curious what it is exactly that they expect, since the change from 2-D to 3-D play, I honestly can only think of a handful of well known titles that were really all that innovative. There are of course major improvements in graphics, animations, effects, etc, etc...but are the games of today really all that...

I disagree, I do think that the footage was clearly rendered in game, and that it was of gameplay. Aside from the HUD, they also walk through the tunnel and the character is looking up and to the sides as if the camera were being moved. Also during the fight, there are attack animations that don't quite connect with the dragon, but the dragon reacts as the animation plays out. Check out 1:18 http://www.youtube.com/wat...

Yes, he's got them mixed up. That, plus just north of 400 Gflops is what the PS3's total processing power was capable of, so PS4 is about 5 times more powerful than the entire ps3, and the GPU is 9 times more powerful than PS3's GPU. The PS3 was capable of more flops than the Xbox360 total power, I want to say between 50-100 Gflops but I don't remember. Obviously the difficult programming environment of the PS3 is what held it back.

Anyway, being 5 times more ...
